Hola Amigos. I've been away a long time struggling to attain Nirvana. My meditation regimen does not allow me to skim through glorious newbie posts hour after hour in search of reorienting my divining rod to the current state of affairs and love in the Greatest City on Earth.

Would someone be so very kind as to direct me to the most complete, non-newbie overview of today's action in the land of Oz? I still remember the stuff about not doing this, and carying along that. I want to know...

Hotest bars and massage centers other than Del Rey, Oasis, Zona Blue, (and maybe Tango India...)

Any significant changes in those.

Economic changes directly affecting bid and answer prices and hour, two-hour, and toda la noche experiences

Significant busts or scandals a conscientious fellow needs to know about.

Latest news on where to find the GFE.

I will, of course, do my own research before my next trip, but I would love to be able to check in from time to time and get all this info when I'm in the mood, have the time, and am ready to set up a trip on the spur of the moment. Like now.

Any help?

 Okay, here's help for your divining rod...

First of all, if you're not a V.I.P. member, you should be. If you go to Prolijo's website http://www.whoreticulturist.info you can join V.I.P. from there, and also acquire access to an excellent interactive map, which shows all the hot spots, many great restaurants, hotels, laundries and landmarks. It's worth the price of V.I.P. membership. If you're already a V.I.P., go to the V.I.P. section and search for the map. It's excellent, with pop-up photos of many of the listed places.

Hotest bars and massage centers other than Del Rey, Oasis, Zona Blue, (and maybe Tango India...)

Le Grillon, excellent, fun strip club.
Pantera Rosa - Excellent, fun strip club
Bar Idem: Bar-massage parlor hybrid, ladies are often excellent, costs range from U.S. $40 - $44.00, more or less per hour. Located near an excellent PanAsian restaurant, Tinjo and other massage places. Roberto is the manager, and he can recommend girls etc. to make your visit more enjoyable.
Bar Monaco - Like the Blue Marlin, kind of...but more oriented toward ticos. Rooms on-site for fun, 8,000 colones ($16.50?) for a half hour session.
Arkada's - Tico place in a dodgy neighborhood; I love this place and have had a lot of fun. Strip shows, porn on the TV, $7.00 girl drinks, $16.00/half hour upstairs.
Park Morazan - Fun, frolic and life-threatening danger from transvestite hookers... on second thought... Never mind.

The prices continue to rise, as more and more dumbass gringos invade Costa Rica. I'll get arguments on this, but most BM/KL girls will go with you for around $60.00/hour in multiple-hour sessions, higher for a single hour.

I just talked to someone who ran into the owner of the Bunny Ranch in Nevada; the guy was visiting Zona Blue doing research for an article he's writing for Hustler magazine. If this is true, the lid is about to blow off our little paradise. More international exposure will not be good for the price of poon, and even its availability may be compromised with so much publicity.

Significant busts or scandals a conscientious fellow needs to know about.

Watch out for increased use of "date-rape"drugs by the girls, who will drug and rob you. Rohypnol, GHB,scopalamine and a muscle-relaxer eyedrop used by opthalmologists are all favorite Mickey Finn drugs. Watch your drink, watch your back.

There is also an increase in violent muggings; tourists are the most likely targets. One common strategy is for one guy to put the victim in a choke-hold, while a second guy goes through the victim's pockets. This happens often on Sundays, when the streets are less crowded. Take cabs everywhere, unless you're expert in martial arts.

Latest news on where to find the GFE.

Man, that question is very subjective. Try daytime girls at the BM, the Sportsmen's Lodge, or look for a non-pro or semi-pro to make your novia.

The GFE depends more upon the personalities of the monger and the chica then it does with hunting locations. I've found GFE's in MPs. You never know where the next girlfriend fantasy experience awaits.

I will, of course, do my own research before my next trip, but I would love to be able to check in from time to time and get all this info when I'm in the mood, have the time, and am ready to set up a trip on the spur of the moment. Like now.

Strobe, I encourage you to do as much research as your meditation schedule permits. There's a load of current info. Check the "Bars, Nightclubs and Massage Parlors" section of this forum, as well as the Newbies, General Information, Trip Reports and Girls Review sections. You'll get a good idea fairly quickly as to the state of the game in Costa Rica. Good luck, and I look forward to someday meeting you in San Jose!

El Ciego,

OK, I admit it. What you say disturbs me greatly. It was already sketchy-bad my last time down. Why would anyone go to a place with so many problems? I can get a nice massage in my local metropolis with no evil-doers causing me trouble.

Where does all this bull come from? What happened to the pura vida?

If a massage is all you're looking for......your local metropolis is all you need.

Strobe,

I may have over-stated the level of potential danger in San Jose. The "date-rape" drugs incidents are few and far between, but they make the news because they are sensational.

Muggings are certainly on the increase, as they are all over the known world. Not too long ago, senior member and Costa Rica guru Dongordo was robbed at gunpoint outside the Vista Linda Apartments, which isn't in a bad part of town.

If you're from a major metropolis, you probably have the street smarts to keep yourself safe while visiting San Jose.

Also, keep in mind that I, a blind guy have now spent a total of 37 days in Costa Rica with no problems. Walk with purpose, stay to populated, well-lit areas, use cabs after dark and you should be fine. Just use your city-guy alertness.

What can you do for a man standing in a ripe apple orchard and asking for something to eat?

Strobe: kindly read, read, and then read some more.

Reading is as good for you as meditation. :D

Strobe, I to have to say if it is only a masage that you want stay at home.

If it is only gambling you want, then vegas is the place. If it is only to be in a catholic culture, then go to Rome, If it is only the climate, On this one I can't think of a better place than SJ. If it is only the cheapest pu*sy, Then go to Cambodia. But if it is some of all this then you have to go to latin america. And close for me to.

back again. Come on guys, you know a nice massage is not a "nice" massage, (I hope).

btw, I hope no one is posting facts based on newspaper reports. Please. First-hand experience only! Otherwise my every day in Philadelphia would be filled with gun-fights and crack-whores. Just my opinion. I would hate to kill the buzz of anyone who posts but has not actually had any first-hand experiences.

For the record, both guns and crack, not to mention crack-whores, are on my "no-no" list. Seriously.

The forum is full of current first hand experiences! (Especially the VIP section, hint hint) Have you still not made your trip? ElCiego provided the answers to your questions in detail, now you pop in 8-9 months later requesting more... No offense as most here are glad to answer your specific questions but there is a new acronym floating around- RTFF. :)

Okay - time for a reality check...

Strobe - I've made 12 trips to CR in the last year-and-a-half. I hate taking cabs, and generally walk all over San Jose in the daytime. More often than not, I do cab it at night - but not always.

To date, after 84 days in the country (90% in San Jose) and 101 individual sessions, I have never....

Been mugged or assaulted

Been ripped off by a cab driver

Been drugged by any chicas

Had anything of any value stolen by chicas out of my room

Gotten into any sort of physical altercation with either locals or other gringos

I'm not saying these sorts of misfortunes don't happen. But if you use a little common sense and generally keep your wits about you, it's not likely. Walk with attitude and always be aware of your surroundings.

So go down there and enjoy yourself. Pura Vida!
