I've been there during early December and most recently during August. I'm planning for another go around this coming March or possibly April. I know to avoid the week of Easter. But Easter aside, is there anything else I need to know about March/April in terms of whether or whether it's not a good time to visit C.R.?

March/April, except Samana Santa, are great times for a visit.

April is the official start of the rainy season but really has no impact in San Jose. Easter is April 16 any time after that is low season and prices drop.

Heya Ding Dong. Since april 16 is easter that means the bars and alot of businesses will be closed from the 9th on right? I think my friend took off the wrong week. Hell i tried to warn him (

Semana Santa (Easter week) sale of alcohol is prohibited on Thursday/Friday/Saturday. Bars close up. Past two years BM was closed for renovations.

I was at Hotel Europa in CR last Easter. In San Jose, there were no booze sales in restaurants and bars on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday morning before Easter. Some bars were actually open Saturday afternoon and stayed open until midnight when they had to close for Easter. On Monday, things were back to normal.

On Thursday, many businesses were closed, but not all. The supermarket (Auto-Mercado) was open until 6 PM, and there were a few street vendors around. Good Friday was almost totally dead---I recall only hotel restaurants being open. Of course, Easter Sunday was even deader.

I think the liquor prohibition is only in San Jose. On Holy Thursday, we went up to Braulio Carrillo National Park (sp?) and then had dinner at a place called Selva Verde Eco-Lodge where the bar was crowded and the booze was flowing. They either bought the sheriff or the laws didn’t apply there.
