I was told that sale of alcohol is prohibited in CR 3 days before their elections on Feb. 6th. Does anyone know if this is true.
Thanks

from what I can see from other posts, there will be no public sales of liquor the day before, the day of and the day after the elections....

but, there seems to be numerous private parties being held that weekend.....

some of the vets here seem well versed in preparing for such disasters

check out some of the party/roll call links and sign up for the private parties....

in any event, I'd rather be in Costa Rica on a dry Super Bowl weekend than a lot of stateside locations...

I agree. A dry CR vacation is better than pretty much any US vacation. Plus, I'm not a big drinker so it won't even phase me.

Hugo,
Although it's going to be a dry weekend, it shouldn't be a problem. All it does, is force us to make sure that we have our sh*t together ahead of time.
Just pick up your liquor(s) of choice before midnight on Fri (2/3). No big deal. Besides that, it seems like the chica's never plan ahead, so, chances are, if you already have a stash, you'll be even more popular with the kittens!

...And I concur with some of the previous posters. A dry superbowl weekend in CR is better than any SB weekend in gringa-land!

Hope to see ya there.

That is correct. The bars are open in January with one exception if a political rally is being held bars in that area are closed. How do you know the schedule? You don't

I have not seen a definitive answer on this yet... Will BM/DR/KL be open on 2/4 and 2/5? Or be completely closed? Even if the BM bar is closed, will there be chicas to pick up around the DR or KL? Does anybody have definitive, confirmed info?

Thanks.

Orange,

I do not think anyone can give you a definite answer. The last Presidential election was held four years ago. The average life span of a bar in San Jose is a lot less than that. Even if the ownership is the same their experience in the last election may change the decision this year.

For example in 2002 bar,

ABC, GHI, MNO all stayed open.

DEF, JKL, PQR all closed.

This year ABC & MNO look back and say we lost money so let close this year. GHI says we did all right lets open.

DEF says yes we made the right decision we will close again. JKL & PQR decide GHI did all right so this time lets stay open.

I know that confusing but so is this whole thing, I do not think anyone can give you the definitive answer you are seeking. Sorry.

I'm not looking for an answer from a historical perspective. I know things change.

The easiest way to get a definitive answer may be to just ask a staff member at DR, BM, KL, etc. The management has probably already decided whether they will open or not.

Well we know the HDR will be open it is a hotel.

So you could email or call the HDR and ask about the BM/KL since they are all the same owner. That way you will get current info not historic and not have to depend on supposition or rumor.
