Ticas Are Finding it More Difficult to Marry the Man of their Dreams

Is it possible to find the man of your dreams? Other than the wedding dress and the party, it is important to find a good candidate and that is where the complication begins for many Ticas (Costa Rican women).

Ticas are finding the task of "reeling in" a husband is becoming more and more difficult, as the market for men is getting slimmer and are having to settle for less than the man of their dreams. Those are the lucky ones, the rest keep on looking.

A recent study by the Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR) shows a decline of marriages over the last 15 years. The study revealed a decrease of 12% in marriages and an increase in divorces and single people.

A study this year by UNIMER reveals some interesting facts: 86% of Ticas say they are happy with their situation (single) and more than half believe that men are threatened by women's independence.

A recent publication, yet to make it on Costa Rican bookshelves, could provide some answers. The book, written by Margaret Kent, "How to marry the man of your choice" has quickly become popular in the united States and Europe.

A practicing lawyer in Miami, Kent also conducts a course that, she claims, has helped over 400 women to become wives since its origination in 1969.

The author's detailed tips on male manipulation comprise a howling, humorous success, if not a sure guide to tying the triumphant knot. The chapters deal with each phase of the husband hunt from dressing attractively and looking one's best (including "dentures if you need them; missing teeth are a turnoff,'') through the happy ending.

According to her game plan, a woman meeting future in-laws should "keep your shoes on unless they remove theirs.''

Premarital sex is encouraged, and ways to enhance bedtime are covered extensively: "Don't expect him to sleep on wet sheets!"; "Don't store trinkets or money in your underwear!"

Kent's numerous one-liners beg for quotation, but the finale caps them all: a woman must ignore "dastardly acts" that her intended may commit as weak attempts to escape matrimony, she says, citing examples of a prospective benedict who slashed his fiancee's car tires, another who moved to Europe and one who brought a date to his wedding - all three wound up married anyway.

Only reason a man should get married is to have Chldren, in my opinion. Even then if your wife wants to dump you and take your Kds you are still hosed. With the exploding homosexual population the number of men is decreasing. For us hetero's, the internet gives us all the sex we want, why get married and limit ourselves?

Agree 100% - This is why I've never married. **************** Ticas and marriage - lots of people in the 3rd world don't officially marry. Mayn can't afford to officially get married so they live together for so long that they become married according to common law. It seems this article is more associated with the more wealthy chicas than chicas in general.

Getting married has little or no benefit to us as mongers....if it flys, floats, fu*ks or drives, it has been my experience that it is far cheaper to rent.

If marrying a Tica,or any Latina for that matter,were such a wonderful idea, chicas wouldn't need to read books on how to "snare a husband". If the Ticos are marrying the Ticas at a slower rate,what does that say about the Gringos who come here and fall desperately in love. Leftovers are only good at Thanksgiving.

I agree 100% that the only reason to marry is to have Kds. But JM there ain't no sence in having Kds If you don't want to raise them. And enjoy giving to them. You see JM K*ds are something that are greater than you. Something worth dieing for. Don't get me wrong, When they become teenagers. Life can be hell. But when you come home and your two year old see's you and runs to hug you, Just you, Not asking for anything else. That is what you never forget. Or when their born and you see your fathers face. JM nature wants us to caste our seed, Civilization means we raise them to be citizens.

VB..hilarious! Not to throw any stones at anyone here. Everyone is free to make their own choices. But, if you haven't had the pleasure of having your own biological Ch*ld you have missed one of lifes greatest experiences!! The only female that will ever really mean anything to me is 5.5 years old. Although she may need to go out and get a job and offer the old man a loan after all that Santa spent on her for Christmas! dapanz1

My Colombiana wife of 5 years informed me last January that if I wouldn't give her a baby she had to leave (she was 32 at the time). I told her when I met her I didn't have any Kds and wasn't going to start. Apparently she didn't believe me. I divorced her in July and she still comes around and watches the house and cat when I'm out of town. Unfortunatly the visits that included "extras" since she moved out can be counted on one hand but I did have a couple Christmas presents waiting for me when I got home from work yesterday. She mentioned something about stopping by today. We'll see what that entails. Oh, yeah, having Kds. Not my thing. Maybe if I had come from a more loving home I would be more open-minded to the idea but at my age (52) I'm more concerned with putting a retirement plan together than devoting my remaining years (and money) to raising a Ch*ld.
