I heard in a different thread that there are no liquor sales in CR over the SB weekend from 2/4 until 2/6. First of all, why? Is it a holiday or something? Secondly, who do they mean by dry? Does that mean that bars cannot sell liquor? I find that whole thing impossible. Is the SL, DR and KL dry? Okay... If I'm comin' in for the SB party sponsored by RN, what are my options? Should I buy a few bottles at the duty free in the aeropuerto? I'm baffled by this whole thing. |

Super Bowl weekend happens to coincide with Costa Rican Presidential election weekend. The election is on Sunday same day as Super Bowl. Under CR law all bars are closed and the sale of alcoholic beverages are prohibited at retail stores. There is a pre-SB party on Saturday, at the SL hosted by Twarag, that will have a door fee. There will be alcohol served since it is a private party. I understand the SL will have a SB party on Sunday but do not have any details. Seems it would be a good move to stop at the duty free if you want to have some booze for your personal use in your room. |

Chi... Clarification on your post... TWARAG is sponsoring a Saturday private party, and Sportsman's Lodge owner Bill is sponsoring a private party at his hotel for Sunday during Superbowl. I have a tour friday night, which now that I think about it, I wonder if bars will stop selling liquor a midnite, 12am Saturday morning... hmmm. Ruffnutz |

This country continues to crack-me-up. The politicians know the ticos do nothing but drink after work and on off-work days. They actually have to impose a no-drinking law so that ticos show up to the voting booth sober. LOL... what a great country! |

It always annoys me when people run their mouth and make statements based on their perception rather than fact. Please tell me how you have come to conclusion..... "The politicians know the ticos do nothing but drink after work and on off-work days" It might surprise you to know it was not that many years ago the some states in The United States banned the sale of alcohol on election day. You might also check the percentage of Tico's who vote as opposed to the dismal percentage of people who bother to vote in US Presidential elections. If Costa Rica cracks you up so badly perhaps you would be happier finding a new destination to visit. |

Whoaa... I didn't intend to criticize ticos. I love their care free attitude. I also realize that voting turnout in the US sucks. I know nothing about the turnout in CR. The ticos that I'm friends with do pretty drink after work and on days off. Tengo no problema consigo. My conclusion was totally in jest. |

No bars will be open....thus the private parties. There will be many in CR that weekend. |

Let me make sure I have this right. All bars close at midnight on Friday. I'm forced to stay and the DR and want to understand how it all will play out. 1. Does this mean that they a) literally shutdown the bar and throw you out or b) just stop selling alcohol? 2. If the answer is "a", how they heck do we feed ourselves down there? I can't imagine walking into the DR on a saturday and not being able to order lunch. I also assume pretty much every restaurant sells booze. So, I'm scratching my head and wondering how it all works. I'm also TERRIFIED of the thought of walking into the DR and not seeing a single chica at the bar. This would be spooky and shocking to my system. 3. When is the ban on alcohol lifted? Is it midnight on Sunday? If so, there could be a really fun post-super-bowl party at the DR. 4. I assume I can load up on booze friday during the day. Which is cheaper? the duty free at the airport or a local liquor store in SJ? |

Just have your own stash of booze on hand. Restaurants will be open. I'm not sure about casinos (might be open without any booze). Voter turnout has been declining in CR in the last few election; it's a growing concern. You want to see really high voter turnout? Check out Nicaragua. Of course, that's probably because persons didn't have a chance to vote for the longest time (dictators/Sandinistas). |

Can I bring a flask of booze with me into a bar like the BM? Then, order a coke and pour a shot from the flask openly? Are the bartenders going to care? I imagine not as long as I give them a propina. |

There is no problem as far as I know in bringing in your own liquor. They just can not "sell" it. |
