I had been e-mailing with a girl who said she was from Ohio for only one week when I get this message: Dear,Sweety How are you and i hope you are o.k,I am sorry to bring this to you right now but i am not doing to well out here in africa i have been having a bad week i got robbed of almost all i have and i only made a deposit on my return flight to the states when i came in from london,I am so depressed right now i really don,t know what to do,I will love for you to be very understanding with me in this state, I was robbed in a resturant at gun point just beside the hotel i stay in,I carry most of all my cash with me all about to keep it safer but they got it all. Right now i miss not having a family and relatives around me i really need your help couse right now i don,t have a choice than to ask you for a loan just for me to be able to pay my way on my trip back to the states ,You have my word on getting them back as soon as i am home,I lost my parents to a car crash some years ago and i am Tthe only Ch*ld and all on her own out here trying to make a living,I don,t get any money from my stories till i get them home and only if they like it and want to buy them thats only how i can make my money ,will love for you to help me to get back home. That's pretty funny. But, out of curiousity I have a couple of questions... Who is this girl to you? A friend? An email pen-pal you've never met? A girl from a dating site? I would rather send $$$ to a Tica. She would appreciate it more. |

I get those all the time. I even had one go as far as saying she lived here in Atlanta, was a model, and was preparing for a trip to visit her mother in Africa. Her dad was from Ohio as well. We only chatted on Yahoo for a bit due to the "scammed" picture. The one she borrowed did look hot. Then here it came, only took 2 weeks, she was patient. The first clue was she "closed" her account in the US, yeah, ok. Then she started in,,,but I immediately closed the IM and deleted her. It happens more than you think and very often. I even get hit on in a couple of asian rooms, unbeiievable! |

And no doubt this lady is connected to the Dead President Mobutu Sese Seko and somehow wants YOU to share in a $25 million deal if only you will act as an "accomodator"....Blah...Blah...Blah...all these damn letters from Nigeria and the Congo. |

I got one of those from UK. The "lawyer" of a wealthy, terminally-ill widow whose husband left her a fortune was looking for somebody to claim the fortune and then donate most of it to charity (as she wished) while keeping some of it. He wanted me to take out a private loan to cover the expenses of obtaining the funds and to getting it out of the UK. Then he wanted me to send him the money by Western Union. Obviously, I knew it was a scam from the get-go but I was bored at work and decided to have some fun with the guy. This went on for like 2 weeks, with daily emails. My main thought was that if I waste enough of his time, maybe I can save one sucker from losing his life savings. I strung this idiot along until the very end when I told him that a couple of friends who are federal agents (they actually are feds) were really interested in this. He got real paranoid and asked why I would discuss it with outsiders and stopped writing. There are some bad people out there, I feel bad for the good (but naive) people who end up losing everything. |

Hi Orange. This girl, guy or whatever is only a photo and some words on the screen to me. She, he or it contacted me from a dating site out of the blue so I continued the contact. Btw, sometimes this dating site stuff pays off. I'm in San Jose now and have had the company of a regular tica for six nights without paying her a dime or colon. Just got really lucky this time around. I set up a meet the first night here for drinks, and we hit it off. Since that first night, she goes to work at a government job for the day and I tomcat around town the whole day. I can't say the dating site stuff is very time-effective, but when it works you can't argue with the method. sailor |
