Somewhat surprisingly, it doesn't sound as if Hooters is changing much in its formula - the skimpy uniforms remain the same, and so do the wings, the beer, and the fries.

The Hooters concept not only reaches the sports fan, but reaches out to the communities in which it operates. In the U.S. the Hooters Community Endowment Fund (HOO.C.E.F.) raises money for local and national charities such as the Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research, Make-A-Wish Foundation, the U.S.O., Special Olympics, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and Muscular Dystrophy Association. .

The company has no plans to alter the concept in Costa Rica, feeling it would be a tremendous disservice to its franchisees, employees, and customers.

Located in Plaza Itskatzu, east of Multiplaza, opens to the public today (Saturday).

hmmm can anyone give a more descriptive location? i have no idea where any of these plaza's are.

Ill check it out and see how much of a tourist trap its setup to be

Plaza Itskatzu is located on the La Sabana/ Santa Ana (Pista Prospero Fernandez) Auto Pista. It is the road you take to Hospital Cima or Multi Plaza.

The plaza is on the North side across from Office Depot just past Price Mart and just before Multi Plaza. There are a number of restaurants there including Outback Steak House and also the Marriott Courtyard is there.

Maybe 7 or 8 K from the gulch. Anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes depending on traffic. On a weekend night most likely about 15 minutes.

It is not in the Airport area. The airport is on the Autopista General Canas. You want to go on the autopista Prospero Fernandez which goes to Santa Ana. Just tell the taxista you want to go to Hospital Cima this will make sure you take the correct exit, when he exits the pista look for the Outback steak house, which will be on your right, and tell him to take you there. You will be in the correct Plaza.

I read this thread last night but waited till now to post so I could let my feelings on the subject settle a bit more.

While I'm always happy to hear about economic growth in CR, I think the 'americanization' of CR is something that should fought against. That sounds odd coming from an american citizen I suppose but I escape to CR to find a piece of everything that the U.S. is not.

I'm curious to watch & see how/if these types of chains will find success in SJ and, considering how well CAFTA has been received down there, if the locals will support it. Any thoughts from you locals?

Ever see the crowd at McDonald's on avenida central? Amazing considering the great casada you can get at any number of soda's in that area for less money.

Based on what I see at Mickey D's, Taco Bell, KFC, Pizza Hut, BK, Papa Johns, Dominoes, Tony Roma's, TGIF, Outback, Denny's, et all the "Americanization" of CR is well underway, unfortunately :( :(

Reminds me of the Hooters that opened in Amsterdam of all places. It was on Damrak, just 2 minutes from the Red Light District. It did not last very long. Now its called something like Beer babes and burgers and the wait staff will go topless and do body shots for a premium. Much more popular than when it was a regular hooters.

To all CRT members to... stay out of Hooters!! Don't give them your money and hopefully they won't last long either.

If you must go to Hooters wait till you're back in the states.

It always amazes me whenever I go on vacation and my friends want to eat at McDonalds. "You're on vacation, try something different for a frickin' change!!" that's what I tell them.

Stay out of Hooters, McDonalds, Buger Kings.... warn the locals as well. It's bad for local business and the future of Costa Rica as we know it.
