Post subject: | New I.D. machines at the Del Rey |
The DR has installed new ID machines for increased security. I had a security guard explain them to me. They work only for Tica cedulas. The chica swipes her cedula through the machine and the band strip on the cedula tells the guard who she is. The machine is also hooked up to a camera which somehow transposes her image to a facial recognition computer upstairs. This way an und***ge chica can't use someone else's ID to get in. Also I assume that if she is an undesirable they will know it. Now if they could just find a way to catch the Colombianas that charge cien for less than una hora they will have something. |

They better not rely too heavily on the facial recognition system/software. The technology still leaves much to be desired and often gives off false positives. They use it in Ybor City in Tampa, and have had many problems. Several times they arrested/detained innocent individuals, and if I'm not mistaken, have only apprehended a few 'wanted' individuals over several years. They also used it at the Super Bowl in Tampa a few years ago. The St. Petersburg/Clearwater airport also uses it. Don't listen to what the manufacturers/developers (or the government for that matter) tell you...the technology needs much improvement. George Orwell ('1984') was right. |

Interesting, the card swipe reader makes sense, the Presidente now uses it when you check a chica in but hard to believe they'd spend thousands on a facial recognition system when the security guy can just do the job. The only benefits I see is if a chica has changed the photo on the cedula, and of course to have a record of who came in and when but you don't need facial recognition for that. Also now all of us gringos are being scanned when we walk in the door. ![]() Someone told me the Presidente is installing a metal detector in the lobby, anyone verify that? It doesn't make much sense either. |

High Tech phucken.... Maybe the DR can start an automated rating and pricing system.. when you walk in the door you get a " program & Tip sheet" just like the track... listing avereage price average time in room Elavator Trips made so far today, this week, this month... User reports and ranking.. how many hours talking with Handy VB's handicap etc... Hmmm.. hope the chicas don't start one on us.... Could be embarrassing ![]() ![]() ![]() PIDD |

Post subject: | Presidente Metal Detector |
During my stay the week of Oct. 12-20 the Presidente had some welding being done on a gate inside the entrance by the cafe. Never saw it again but I agree with the idea that it may be a metal scanner frame. How can you build a metal detector out of solid metal is beyond me, but all that measuring and mess was for some reason. |

Post subject: | Facial Recognition Software |
Facial Recognition Software is getting to be top notch, but it depends on the caliber of the software. I'm in the surveillance industry and know a little about this, so please be kind. More and more SMALL casinos are using this software because they are getting hit hard by professional card counting teams that can take them for several grand in an hour. All the big, big casinos use the software and it has saved the big Vegas type of casinos millions over the past few years. That being said, most of these Pro Card Counters are now being forced to hit cruise ships, Indian Casinos, and smaller casinos (like in Costa Rica, Aruba, etc...) because they lack the software that will identify them as counters. These little casinos now have to have the software because they are now the main targets of the pros, since the big casinos have use the software. All of the major counters are in the Griffin Book (Griffin Investigations in Vegas’s book of cheats) and are kicked out of major casinos within a few minutes of walking in the door because of the software. These SMALL casinos really have no option but to pony up and pay for the software, otherwise they will continue to get hit super hard by the pros. "Bringing down the House" is a book written about some MIT graduates who knew what they are doing and made a ton of cash beating the casinos. This is no joke. The Del Rey is one of my favorite places on the planet, but it is also a small casino. The Presidente is also a great place, but it is also a small casino (I.E.---BIG Target because it is one of the last targets around) They most likely have this software for casino use and are playing around with it with the girls because it cost’s virutually nothing to add a couple of hundred more photos to the software). From what I hear, und***ge prostitution is one of the CR government’s targets. They don't want a Thailand reputation and I don't blame them. I have not been in San Jose in a year or so, but I will give a full, in-depth analysis of the software the next time I am able to go. Pura Vida! SuperDave |

Post subject: | CR going high-tech |
I am surprised to hear that these places are investing the $$$. I guess it must be for liability reasons. It is also good for the monger. You would hope that these measures would keep you away from the Viper Lady types. Tux |

Would doubt liability has anything to do with there investment. There is almost no such thing a being sued for consumer liability in CR. Slip on a wet spot?...you should have seen it, fool. Spill hot coffee on your groin? Be more careful, fool. What a great country...you actually have to be responsible for your own foolishness. |

Wasn't there a case a couple of years ago where a guy jumped off the subway platform in front of a train, somehow lived, and sued. I think it was in New York City. The guy actually won his case if I remember correctly! Haven't some people sued fast food places to recover damages because they are so fat? What a legal system we have. OJ is still walking around. I wonder if he's still looking for the 'real killer'? What about all of the huge class action suits? While some surely have merit, many of them are ridiculous. Each person/plaintiff recovers a tiny amount, while the lawyers get millions. It's out of control! |
