Well, first off let me say it's just been waaaaayyyy too long since I've been to CR (February for SuperBowl) and I'm glad to be going back for yet another 21 days (Dec 5th-26th). As I did last time, I will spend the first 4 or so days in the gulch and then back off to Puerto Viejo to meet up with old friends. If you are traveling during this time frame let me know so we can get together and have drinks.

A question for you pros - Any holiday issues that I need to be aware of (Business closings, etc..) for the time frame I'm looking at?

In addition, I'm considering a possible GFE for 1-2 weeks so I'd like to hear what everyones success ratio has been in that area.

Thx and greetings to all.

It is different from other months, but I've enjoyed it many times. The weather is probably the coldest it gets in SJ, though "summer" could break out at any time. Early last December it was rainy and windy. Different ladies are working from usual, since some are trying to make some money for the holidays. There are lots of parades and events going on and the post office closes for what seems like weeks. Most of the Josefinas go to the beach for Xmas and many campesinos come to SJ for the Gran Tope Nacional the day you leave.

I'll definately be there at that time RBC. I look forward to seeing you again and we must do another gulch tour. I still have mid-day flashbacks about the last one!

Towards the end of my trip I expect to be in Puerto Viejo so the lack of gulch activity won't really be an issue for me. Any idea what days are 'official'? In other words, when do the buses, etc shut down/start up for the holidays.

Deadest time of the year. Remember, CR is a deeply religious country and even the DR girls take a break and go back to Columbia or the Dominca Republic. Like someone else posted above, the locals go to the beach. Many guys living here go to the states for the holidays.
Try not to be here the week proceeding xmas and the week after.

Slight change in my holiday plans. I'm now leaving the 2nd and will leave CR probably the 23rd. Hopefully the tail end of the trip won't see to much dead time.

I look forward to meeting up with you all again!
