On my way back from last CR trip I go through US Immigration in Atlanta. Real bitch of a officer gives me the evil eye. (Probably because I was staring at her name tag not her breasts.) She busts my chops for 2 trips to CR within 8 weeks. She asks very sternly, "Why did you go back so soon?" I answer. "because it's a great country!" She asks if I have friends there. (Hell baby, I have made lotsa amigas there) I reply, "I make friends everywhere I go." She doesn't think it's funny. I thought she was going to press a button and have me searched.

Have any of you been hassled? Are they targeting sexo touristas? How often can you come & go, apart from the 72 hour rule? Hell, this is a free country. Am I being paranoid? I am thinking about catching a flight back this weekend because fares are great and I am hungry for ticas. I have nothing to hide but condoms and KY juice.

I've never heard of a gringo being hassled, unless they suspect you are a drug dealer or a tax cheat.

I was once searched coming back from Thailand. They went thru every square inch of my bags. Probably because I was a single male returning from a prime mongering destination. I also had nothing to hide. So far I haven't been searched returning from CR(knock on wood).

I did have one agent in Miami notice that I have made frequent trips to Costa Rica. For the record the agent was male. He asked me why I went so often. "My fiance lives there." Do you enjoy San Jose? "I usually go to Cartago and the beaches."

I wouldn't say that I was being hassled as such. But, I did get a few questions about frequent travel. I'm sure that customs agents can play "Spot the Monger" as well as any of us.

When in Europe they have 12 lanes for EU citizens and 1 lane for foreigners. In Atlanta, they have 12 lanes for foreigners and one for US citizens. What's wrong with that picture?

They probably also asked about your occupation. They are looking for clues based on a compilation of info that others gave and turned out to be smugglers or "rule breakers" if you will. They're suspicious about people that go down for presumably no reason. If you're on business, it's probably a no-brainard. I wonder if some of you that have had so many trips and never a problem were on business? But a single guy that gives strange answers and doesn't seem to have had a good reason to go down often get bothered. It was my situation recently and I figure they wondered if I had drugs. Of course, I did not. But a single guy that goes down by himself without friends per se is a suspect to customs. This next trip I will surely have just met a few friends there and made many new ones as I display brochures from my many ecotourism excursions.
