Post subject: | Question for Hombres living in CR |
I am thinking of buying a Playstation for my novias K*ds and was wandering if anybody knows the cost of them in CR? Amazon sells the PS2 (new design) for $150, it includes the machine and (1) controller. Add'l controller cost is $23. I have not bought a video game platform in many years and was also wondering if the PS2 sold in CR different than sold in the states? Is it in spanish? Also are the games different in CR, in spanish? Thanks for the help. noq |

In the San Pedro mall there is at least one store that sells nothing but video games and equipment. As for the other questions, I couldn't say. I don't think finding video games or equipment would present any problem at all. |

No big difference. Except about 1/2 the language will be in Spanish but all of the K*ds I know have no prbolems playing games in English. K*ds will figure those things out. the PS1 runs for about $50 bucks with a controller and the PS2 still runs pretty high here at about $200-$250 |

Kotigre is right about the prices. IF you gonna get something get the PS2. Keep in mind that, it will read only original games and the price for each of them here is about $25 to $30 each. At mall San Pedro you can find the game you want however these ones are burned. (not original) the only way to have them read is to install the chip which cost is about 30.000 colones ($55- 60). It works pretty good, I did the same with mine about a year ago and it still works and now I can buy cheap games 3 for 7000 colones. My two cents Mente |

Thanks for the info. Mente, Sorry but I have been out of the gaming loop for a while. What I think you are recommending is to buy the PS2 console in the USA and then by "the chip" in San jose so that the K*ds can buy games that work on the console for a cheaper price? Does this chip available/work on the PS2 (new design) that is thinner than the older model? Thanks noq |

Correct, get the PS2 and then install the chip, not quite sure for the new model. I don't think it will be a problem, since the chip is just a reader. OTOH I forgot to mention that the PS2 (with no chip) is capable of reading DVD and even music cd's. Once the chip is installed the DVD capabilities decrease at a high point. At least my PS2 skip frames and at times won't read. That's why I bought a cheap DVD player at Wallmart for my home. I'll check into the new PS2 for the chip, although I don't think there will be a problem. Mente |

Just got the news. There is no chip available for the slim PS2 player yet. At least down here. So you have two options, buy the new one and stick to original games or buy the PS2 old model and intall the chip. Hope this info helps and best of luck. Mente |

Try to get an older model so they can put in the mod chip. That way the K*ds aren't limited to buying the more expensive original games. |
