I think (especially the gals from other countries) CHOOSE to do this.
My thinking is the exact opposite. We have all heard of the Colombian cartel where the girls are imported and "controlled" by a madam. In this instance, I would call it force. True or not, I don't know. Dominican Republic, please. Security guards at the airport make $100/MONTH. They may not be "forced" physically to work as prostitutes. But, what are the alternatives? I have seen the face of poverty in the Dominican Republic. Imagine trying to support a mother, father and Ch*ld, extended family making those kind of wages. The coercion may not be physical but trying to make those kind of wages in the DR or Colombia is impossible. Techinically, did they CHOSE to work as a prostitute..yeah, I guess. But, really, there is no choice.
Now, not to offend anyone. But, the Ticas have a family structure in Costa Rica to assist with the raising of the young ones. They have a familiar environment in which to live. I think the Ticas are more the ones that CHOOSE to work. Am I condemning it?? Obviously not since I support the cause everytime I am in CR. I mean, what do you guys think is the draw to Costa Rica for the foreign women? Prostitution is legal in the Dominican, Colombia etc... But, supply and demand always meet. The provider will get what the market will bear. The market demands much higher "wages" in Costa Rica. Think about Cancun. In the early days it was a haven for North American men. Now, what will $100 get ya in Cancun????? The women follow the North American/European male. For example, we go to Sosua..the women follow.
Revelation coming..... the girls from foreign countries are not thrilled to be living and working in CR away from their families and friends and familiar surroundings. Anyone surprised by that? It is just that the circumstances of their homeland will not provide sustenence for an entire family. I'm convinced that the natives are the ones who choose the line of work.
