Just got off the phone with one of them.. We (crt) happen to have the good fortune to be in the best company of some really stellar gringos!! The man who I just talked to is a legend, as are several in our fraternity!

The only Costa Rican legend I look-up to is Tampa Gringo. The rest (including Don Gordo) are imitators. Never understood why you guys worship Rick that much.

I do not know Tampa Gringo so can not judge him or compare him to Don Gordo.

I have been privileged to have had a mentor who was indeed a true Costa Rican legend. He lived in CR from the late 80's until he had to return to the US in early 00's for health reasons. He was well known to all mongers in CR and was not a member of this board and a member of CRS for just a short period so you who live vicariously thru discussion boards would not know him.

To say he or anyone else was the only true legend is nonsense. He is one I will always remember.

Whether posted by legends or not, I'm happy to read the posts here by those more "in-the-know" compared to me. We all stand on the shoulders of who came before.

There are quite a few legends, as I stated earlier...they are mentors, like you had, or what I have experienced....GOOD GUYS WHO ONCE THEY ARE GONE, We will never get to experience the type, ever again....Hey after that definition, maybe dingdong and the zig qualify....Could we be considered legends???

Personally, I do not think websites create legends. Extraordinary accomplishments and deeds create legends. There can also be bad legendary persons as well as good. I tend to think of notable people that I enjoyed or appreciated over the years as "real characters" or "memorable people." In some respects there are persons that visited CRT and CRS that stand in a class all by themselves for what they contributed. Tampagringo was an original and very well spoken and written but did not spend much personal time with members in country. I truly believe that Dongordo picked up the baton and with his knowledge of simple life in CR served as a mentor to new members along with making his self available in person. Our Admins have all shared and created a venue to pass the baton.

I must say that there has been a broad array of personalities on these two sites. Some made a short but memorable impression and some brought out the worst in all of us. Posts such as OptimusPrime are cheap shots and certainly reveal his myopic view of credible people around here.....past and present.

Interesting how we all have our heros and some may have only spoken to you briefly or entered your world only once. Life is forever a surprise.

Tampa Gringo lives in CR, Married a Tica, doesn't monger but still will come out and look, last time I spoke with him, was in the process of buying a liquor store with a Tico partner...
