Post subject:  The term "monger"

I don't use the term "monger" to describe us because it is mostly incorrect. "To monger" is to sell or promote something low. "Whoremonger" is the original and very old usage; it's been extended to "fishmonger" and other things--even, in England, to a politician promoting some idea or ideology. Pimps are whoremongers, as are, in SJO, many bar, restaurant and MP owners. It surprises me that the administration of the Pres is mongering to the degree of offering a prize for best post. I thought they wanted to diversify their clientele. It shows how much they value our business. We are mongers in the sense of promoters when we post recommendations and advice. But as consumers, we are on the opposite side of the transaction.

So what's the best term for us? There is "john" in American English, and a number of colorful and similarly demeaning terms in British English. I like "whorist" or "whore-chaser." Any other suggestions?

No, it's a question of usage, not pronunciation. Read the play or watch the musical with a little more careful attention.

Doesn't matter what they call me, as long as they don't call me late for dinner.

OR

O Romeo, Romeo! wherefore art thou Romeo?
Deny thy father, and refuse thy name;
Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love,
And I’ll no longer be a Capulet.

’Tis but thy name that is my enemy;
Thou art thyself though, not a Montague.
What’s Montague? it is nor hand, nor foot,
Nor arm, nor face, nor any other part
Belonging to a man. O! be some other name:
What’s in a name? that which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet;
So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call’d,
Retain that dear perfection which he owes
Without that title. Romeo, doff thy name;
And for that name, which is no part of thee,
Take all myself.

Don't get me started on this as my feelings about the term "monger" are well known. I've been promoting the term whorticulturist to denote the sexual/cultural aspect of what the more refined "mongers" do. See my definition at my new website http://www.whorticulture.info/definition.html

BTW, cbea, as a regular contributor here you can qualify as a "whorticulturist" even though you're not a CRT VIP. PM me if you want the password to my site (but take the quiz first just for a little fun)

B.

You make a good point, although it is one that will likely be lost on most of the membership here.

Wise Prolijo is a website-monger! :cool:

Actually, there has been more heated discussion over the months regarding the use of the word "whore." The consensus seems to be that the term "whore" should be reserved only for those prostitutes who are dishonest in their dealings, or otherwise disagreeable to the hobby. The Spanish equivalent "puta" is used with the same restraint.

Like you, and for the same reasons, I dislike the term "monger" to apply to those of us who pay for play. I prefer the term "hobbyist."

And with all due respect to Prolijo, a member to whom respect is certainly due, I think the term "whoreticulture," while damn clever is a bit offensive, simply because of the inclusion of the word "whore."

As gentlemen players, those of us who are educated and genteel use the terms "ladies," "providers" and "chicas" to describe the professional sex workers in Costa Rica. Other words, if polite are accepted by most. Terms such as slut, zorra, bitch, cunt etc. are usually met with distaste, unless the woman in question is a thief, con artist, or shows other "evil" traits.

Hope this helps.

I prefer the term hobbist which I learned form Dallasman at my first meeting with a few of this fine group or guys.That could be many things but I think it has a nice ring.I perfer to refer to the ladies as providers.They provide a service whigh I in turn pay a fee for and I always treat them with respect.I am often provided with a very good level of service and seldom bad service.rbc100

Damn all of you to Hell!

This whole alleged misuse of the term “monger” is causing me inordinate grief, loss of sleep and post-traumatic stress disorder, and I only have all of you to thank for it. I hope you are proud of yourselves!

If we continue bastardising our Queen’s English, especially here, handed down by God almighty, what lies in store for us, you and me, the Chosen People? I submit to all of you, the end is near.

Alarmist? Me? Perhaps.

Monger? Monster? Mongoose? Montessori? What’s in a name?

Fortunately, I now have before me a Webster’s Unabridged Dictionary I got at a yard sale for five bucks. It comes in handy about once-a-year and sits beneath the Yellow Pages. But today, this dictionary is worth a million dollars.

Monger: (1) A dealer in or trader of a commodity. (2) A person who busies himself with something in a petty or contemptible way.

Holy mother of God I exclaimed outloud as I read this! I smacked my open palm upon the keyboard, causing it to bleed. The latter definition describes me perfectly. I can finally rest in my bed once again. There are lots of dictionaries of the english language in this world. To find out more, for some of us, check your local library.

Sleeping well again. Zzzz.

I prefer the term STUD lol. I mean really dosent it feel like your the bitch in Costa Rica? The women of the night down here usally have alot more money than the other women have, dress in the nicest clothes, and eat at the most expensive restruants. On the other hand most of the prositutes that live in Florida that I have seen are hooked on drugs and only turn a trick long enough to buy them the next crack rock. Most have a record a mile long becuase its illegal and they are hanging out in bad area's with bad people.

I love Costa Rica and whomever can call me whatever they want for going there to pick up women. Most American men think its great and most gringa's dont like it becuase they think they might lose the stranglehold they have over men in the USA. Truthfully I have yet to see someone that was unaffected by the culture shock and most seem to put up with less shit from women when they get back. I feel that the american women resent this.

I'd like to post a copy of an e-mail I just sent to another member which I think I did an especially good job on and touches on a lot of good points. Some of it is a little off topic but is also informative. As background this e-mail was in response to an e-mail questioning the selection criteria for my new website as well as my choice of name

You're absolutely correct that quality is more important than quantity. However, you wouldn't believe the number of pm's and e-mails I've received already by various guys who can't find the password post in the VIP section, are unsure if they qualify, etc. Just checking the number of their posts takes time, I can not imagine actually having to read and evaluate all of them. The main purpose of requiring a password is to place some sort of limit on the number of people that can access it. Another purpose is to keep out "non-players", moral crusaders, feminists who "don't approve" of our activities, etc. Some of those types may scan our forums, few if any would ever pay to join and fewer still are going to put in the effort to make more than one or two posts. So the quantity criteria does make some sense.

The larger problem with using quantity or paid memberships on other sites as a criteria for accessing my site is not who it keeps out but who it still allows in. The moralists and femi-nazis are kept out but nothing keeps out the pedophiles and true mongerers. When reviewing the redbook site you sent me I came across a post about big scandal at another site I use. Apparently there were some demeaning abu ghraib style pornographic photos taken of some muslim women that were duped into posing that were posted at WSG. For more info on the interesting and extremely disturbing "Agadir Scandal" check out http://www.brusselsjournal.com/comment/reply/66. This highlights that not all "mongers" or "hobbyists" share the level of class and discretion of a true "Whorticulturist"

As to your qualms re: my terminology. I share your reservations with the term whorticulturist. It is imperfect as are most of its alternatives. It may be just a small distinction but, on its behalf, unlike monger, which has been pretty much perjorative since its inception (from Latin mang, dealer in slaves, probably of Greek origin.), whore has only much more recently acquired its negative connotation, as you can see by this extensive etymology:
    Word History: Derivatives of Indo-European roots have often acquired starkly contrasting meanings. A prime example is the case of the root *k-, “to like, desire.” From it was derived a stem *kro-, from which came the prehistoric Common Germanic word *hraz with the underlying meaning “one who desires” and the effective meaning “adulterer.” The feminine of this, *hrn-, became hre in Old English, the ancestor of Modern English whore. In another branch of the Indo-European family, the same stem *kro- produced the Latin word crus, “dear.” This word has several derivatives borrowed into English, including caress, cherish, and charity, in Christian doctrine the highest form of love and the greatest of the theological virtues. ·Another derivative of the root *k- in Indo-European was *kmo-, a descendant of which is the Sanskrit word for “love,” kma, appearing in the name of the most famous treatise on love and lovemaking, the Kamasutra.
Having terms like caress, cherish and charity as one's cousins does not sound so bad. Nor does having the same root as the Kamasutra. The more benign alternatives such as hobbyist are so vague as tell us little about what we're really all about and worse belies to me a basic attitude of shame of what our so-called "hobby" really entails. Why don't we just come out and say what it is we do. Pairing the terms Whore and Culture, while also being a clever play on words, a homonym of another altogether different term, indicates a group of men distinct from the rest of the so-called hobby, men who are interested in a wider range of topics than just discussing how many bitches and ho's they banged the night before and who want to really elevate the hobby to a higher level.

I particularly encourage readers to check out the link in this post as it raises issues worthy of a whole seperate thread.
