This is a true story... So I take a girl out this past Tuesday. First thing she tells me when she gets in the car is that she's had a long day, hasn't slept much, and apologizes ahead of time if she acts bitchy... great start... I hate uncomfortable silences, and her first words didn't really make for conversation, so I tell her that I want to play the car stereo real loud while we drive into the city to elminate the need for chit chat and also eliminate the "awkward silence" situation. I say that we'll hold out on conversation until after we get a few drinks in us. Go to bar... the girl can drink... tells me that her and her ex-fiance used to be serious alcoholics. He's in jail right now, that's why the engagement got called off... I sure can pick them. She and I do like 2 Jager-Bombs and two beers in about 15 minutes. Conversation starts up and she warms up to me. She kisses me, and things are looking up. Reservation time for the restaurant is coming up. Close the tab... $65 dollars after tip... We go to a nice restaurant in the Buckhead area of Atlanta. This is our first date, although we had spent the night together the previous Friday (long story short, we were both at a bar, met, hooked up, she slept with me that night, but didn't have sex). So the first thing I do is give her the wine list so she can choose... this girl orders a $120 dollar bottle without even flinching... In my mind, I'm thinking "This bitch must have lost her damn mind." This is our first date, you don't pull shit like this. Atleast ASK me before ordering... Wine tasted as good as the $10 bottle I have on top of my fridge from the local supermarket. Food is great...Restaurant bill is $260 after tip. Go to a bar to drink... the girl is a lush. But she's all over me. By the time it's time to go home, I raked up another $80 tab. Go to her house, we make out. I get no pu*sy. I go home and jerk off. Don't hear from her the rest of the week Got a text message from her last night saying "Hey, sorry I haven't called, but I have had some serious unexpected issues. I'll call soon." Vague as hell... my guess is a guy from the past making an appearance to piss on my parade. Needless to say, I haven't heard from her, but I got this really cool cork in my car's cupholder from the $120 wine bottle... A $300 date, only to have to pull a "Handy"... do you realize the amounts of dirty sex I could get with that amount at Zona Blue and Oasis!? I wish I could kick my own ass sometimes. Just to be the devil's advocate for a second, $400 for a gringa is not necessarily a stupid investment if it gets you less expensive sex and companionship down the road. $40 at ZB may get you laid for an hour but you're never going to find a girl you might marry there. That said, at what point during the date should Ruffnutz have realized that this girl really didn't present any long-term prospects? Secondly, if we chastise each other for spending cien por una hora at the BM is it really that much more stupid to spend $400 for 4 hours on a date with a gringa. Granted no pu*sy on the date - only the prospect of more which did not pan out. One can't really blame the gringa for ordering the $120 bottle of wine any more than we can blame the colombiana for asking Cien or ordering the overpriced shrimp cocktail when we take them out in SJ. Its not a gringa or a latina thing. Its a female thing...or at least some females. Ultimately, Ruffnutz was the one that had or should have had control over his own wallet during the date (lesson learned: never let a basically unknown gringa order the wine, do it yourself or skip it altogether). Sure, she shouldn't have presumed to order anything that pricey, but Ruff never objected. He could still have diplomatically changed the order to something more reasonable before sending the wine steward away. If she somehow thought was being cheap, than she's the one with the problem, not him. He had already spent more on drinks before dinner than most people spend on the meal itself, that's hardly being cheap. If he doesn't set a limit somewhere, than the sky becomes the limit. Besides, it wasn't like she had demonstrated any qualities of her own up to that point that were so admirable. This basically amounts to paying up front. Let her show you what she has to offer in return and if that is so great than she can have the $120 bottle on your next date. Finally, Ruff and her spend $65 on fancy drinks at the bar in the space of less than 15 minutes during which time she tells you she "used" to be an alcoholic (I'm sorry some alcoholics may manage to maintain sobriety but they're STILL alcoholics) and yet he felt she needed even more alcohol with dinner and then after dinner rather than go to a movie or dancing goes to a bar to drink even more still. At what point did Ruff finally realize she might not exactly be over her alcoholism. Maybe he thought he would take advantage of her drunkenness or maybe he was a bit tipsy himself (lesson#2: its not a good sign if either party gets too bombed on a first date). This is not to bash Ruffnutz at all, as we've all done such silly things at one time or another, often thinking with our little head and spending hard-earned money in the futile hope that it will get us more pu*sy than it ultimately does. But this experience is hardly representative of the typical gringa date experience. Granted he had a pick-up night makeout session that led him to believe he might get "lucky", but this still was first date. Maybe I'm cheap but I don't think I've ever spent $400 in one night on a girl that I had been dating for a while let alone on a first date. Just so Ruff doesn't feel so bad, one time I made the mistake of paying an escort first and having her run out the door. It was only $200 but on a $/minute basis has Ruffnutz's experience beat by a mile |
