I listened to a few guys talking at the News Cafe rail yesterday.

Big white guy with a Scottish accent stated he worked for HBO and they were going to do a show on SJO and our gals. He has a partner who is older (all gray hair) and a single diamond like earing. The Scottish guy is real heavy and in his late 40s to early 50s, his buddy looks to be in his late 50s and much trimmer.

I don't recall HBO using any Scots for announcers/narrators on shows, but I do know one of the "save the world" undercover investigators who has had his shows on the national networks has a Brit style of accent.

The HBO guy never showed any ID and the guys talking to him never asked for any.

Any time someone does a show on prostitution, lots of heat is applied by the US Government. I would not help anyone do a show about prostitution any place. We have all seen how the media portrays us and our ladies.

Usually the producers and "grunts" do all the work before the talent comes in to do the filming.

He might be an advance man.

Last month the Brazilian government turned down what amounted to a $40 million bribe from the U.S. government. The money was outwardly earmarked as foreign aid for aids meds. Attached to the bill was the request for Brazil to come to the aid of "exploited women." Your tax dollars at work gentlemen, to fight the scourge of sex! Brazil turned them down. Hats off to Brazil!

I was at Kmur Wednesday or Thursday June15-16 and there were three guys filming the girls dancing on the small stage.

I couldn't really tell what their deal was except they were paying the girls a "whopping" 5,000 col. for whatever strip they wanted to perform.

A couple of the girls really got into it and the filmers did a lot of close-ups

Two guys with hand held film cameras and one guy soliciting.

IMHO they were very slippery looking ... one big fat slob with shorts, black socks, brown shoes and needed a shave, the other, long hair, fu man chu moustache, dirty jeans and slovenly looking and the third the straight guy, pretty much non descript.

Wasn't a pretty picture....I think I overheard them saying it was for advertizing....but I'm not sure.

I felt the girls were being very much exploited for a lousy $11

I hope HBO does not end up doing this show, but the ironic thing is that they really are exploiting 'exploited women'. They're running more and more soft porn late night type specials about prostitution including American ghetto street hoes, crack hoes, etc.

I'm afraid Shamas is right. I wish good old Uncle Sam would quit trying to impose their unhealthy Victorian hypocrisy on the parts of the world that really don't need their 'help'. There's nothing going on in CR that's not going on legally in Nevada.

If the U.S. really wants to do something for someone who's exploited, that should offer rebates to the poor bastards who have been taken for a ride in one of the Nevada cathouses. The poor guy probably won't be able to make his next mortgage payment.

Ironic too, that some of the highest paid whores in the world live in Washington, and you can take that any way you want to :?

Not to mention the Bunny Ranch special they have running where these young virgins and high rollers go to spend four figures to get a hand job from Airforce Amy. It's hard to believe that these people getting serviced in this place would agree to be filmed for the HBO special, I wonder if they know or if there is some legality involved where they don't have to inform you that you are being filmed with a working girl for the nation to see.

I've seen more than one of these specials on HBO regarding this ranch and the owner does not seem too worried about the U.S. Government as he is sipping his champaigne and raking in the dough. :?

My guess is that if HBO is doing a program on SJ it is part of the "Sexo Urbano" series in spanish that is broadcast on HBO Ole (their Latin American subsidiary).

The shows are much like the Bunny Ranch and Strip Club shows that HBO runs in the U.S. (my TV guide says this week they are doing Santiago de Chile).

One of the themes of these shows is always how enterprising girls can make guys throw away thousands of dollars for little more than a smile and a handjob.

The good news is that it wouldn't be shown in the U.S. to rile up wives, girlfriends and fascist puritans.

The bad news is that it would be broadcast in San Jose. This would rile up the CR chapter of the fascist puritans. But, perhaps, more dangerously, would give some working girls here the hair-brained idea that they are worth $500/hr.

Two questions: What date, time and channel (in San Jose, CR) is the Santiago, Chile show being aired? Santiago fascinates me!

And #2: It would be cool if we could get interviewed, and refuse to talk about the sex industry, but instead focus on why the governments aren't focusing on the 7 year-olds sleeping in cardboard boxes in the street?

I can't get over the hypocricy of this. It's like worryin about a sink faucet dripping when a tsunami is tearing apart your house, no?

every developing country has had prostitution including
ours; in the early 1900's new york had about 500 puta houses.

and many port towns all over country; don't forget the wild west.

and prostitution wasn't even on the books.

it is still legal in nevada and tolerated elsewhere.

who would want to live in a totally dry state of alcohol or entertainment.

i tried living in north carolina recently; to me it was so dry-what was the sense of working hard if there is no place to get massage at night
even legit- after 6pm no one wanted to work much...

i need to live near a big city i realized, that has a little sleeze.

sure i like having girlfriend; but sometimes i need to know
some fun and relazation is available if i need it!

Rolex,
It was on prior to my post. I didn't see it, but doubt if you missed much. The series is essentially soft porn with a minimum of useful information. But if you're interested, keep your eyes open; they tend to recycle the programs a couple times over a month.

News reports about sex tourism in San Jose, Costa Rica have been made before. A Canadian news magazine show dedicated a segment to SJO in March of 2004. Listed below is the url to the Inside Costa Rica Special Reports page that contains an article about the presentation. Also, the page includes a link to the video, so you can watch the Canadian news feature as well. Enjoy.

"Enjoy"?!?!? Hardly. Sort of a poor choice of words there, redhook.

Some of the newer members may have missed that old story, but it was covered extensively here at the time it came out. There's an interesting follow-up part of the story that you won't see at that link. The guy from Casa Alianza that they used as their primary source of information for that article, a fellow by the name of Bruce Harris, has since been booted from that organization when it came out he had been having sex with one of the young boys under their care. Talk about hypocrisy. I guess it must have been from personal experience that he developed the mistaken assumption that regular sex tourism has anything at all to do with what a few deviants like himself are doing down there.

As to the HBO special, we should probably distinguish between "news" stories that are sensationalistic exposés designed to alarm and outrage the general public and late-night soft core cable porn that cater to deviants like ourselves. They both take advantage of the salacious and prurient nature of the subject matter. And they both raise the heat on our hobby by raisng the awareness level of the bible-thumpers in our country. However not as many puritanical zealots are up late watching cable porn as there ones that are likely to see the broadcast "news" stories. Where programs like those on HBO cause as much of a problem if not more is that they heighten the awareness of CR as a sex destination by assorted deviants. Some of them come here and educate themselves before going down. Others go down ill-informed and screw up the market for us. Worse yet, some pedophiles probably watch these shows too and get ideas, making the distorted alarms of guys like Bruce Harris self-fulfilling.

Bruce Harris fired because he paid a teenager (male, Honduran) for sex.

http://www.americas.org/item_16425

I had also read where Harris set up (20/20 I think) a deal with underaged girls, it was a set up for publicity. Since he was arrested for nailing a teenaged boy and there was rumor (or truth) that one of the news articles was a set up job, Harris has a serious lack of credibility.

This Canadian report makes it look like young girls are all over town. In my 5-6 trips to Costa Rica, I have never seen anything like what the Canadian or 20/20 article showed. I have never looked for it, that is sure. If there is sex tourists looking for girls under 18, I do wish the police or whoever is protecting the Ch*ldren all of the luck in the world, however it would take somebody strong and with integrity, something Harris seriously lacked.
