Does anyone know where the Hospital Mexico is? I need to get to that area from the airport tomorrow. If the airport taxi doesn't know, I'm SOL.
Thanks
Scuba

The airport taxi will know where it is.. you will pass it ( on west side) on the autopista enroute to downtown San Jose.

Is near La Uraca. If you know where Tango India is you are very near Hospital Mexico. About 15 minutes from the gulch in normal traffic.

When you’re coming from the airport, as soon as you begin entering San José, just before you get to the Dennis Restaurant, is the first (and only) big building that you see on your right hand side.

Yup. And then up into the mountains on the other side of Alajuela. An experience that only a GFE guy could appreciate.
Next night in Carpio. This was a Nica barrio that a lot of guys would not be able to handle. I enjoyed it, but I definately do not recommend looking for a room there.

Wow, someone else has actually been to Carpio!

When my Nica would come down to visit me in San Jose, we would always go out and visit her aunts/uncles/cousins etc. who live in Carpio. It is regarded as the poorest, most dangerous, crime ridden slums in all of Costa Rica with almost one murder per day. But I personally have met nothing but good, hard working people out there and had some of the best times of my life. Despite the poverty, those people still know how to smile and dance and enjoy life as it comes. It gives me perspective on just how materialistic our culture is in the USA. With the way the people look at me there, I figured I was the only gringo who ever stepped foot on their turf, but it is good to hear about someone else visiting there as well. I'm sure Scuba would agree that its a horizon expanding experience.

For anyone else heading out to Hospital Mexico, if you are faint of heart do not accidently go too far past the Parque de Diversiones or you will find yourself right there in the heart of Carpio, and for the inexperienced it is not a pretty place.

Sandinista-
I thought I was the first gringo to enter. I felt the same as you did. I don't think I will ever forget the experience. I was pretty relaxed thru it all, but I knew that my life didn't have much more value than the cash in my pocket.
The thoughts that linger: In the middle of the night, I went to the bano in the dark because turning on the light would have lit up the apartment next to us.In the next apt., the crying b*by and it's parents staying up all night with it. I could hear every word they said. The electic wiring- 2 wires in and everything run off them-exposed under the tin roof and exposed in the shower. Looking into the neighbors apt. thru the wall. Said wall was thin boards slapped haphazardly together. 1 room with a partial divider. When we arrived, 4 people got out of the bed to give it to us. They put a blanket on the concrete floor and without a complaint, slept on the floor on the otherside of the divider. No hot water. Shower was just PVC pipe- no head. Stove-2 burners hooked up to a propane bottle. Kitchen sink was a garden hose valve in what was about a 4" deep type of sink. Frig was about 10 cf. Had my most enjoyable meal of the week there.
With the rain and the dirt roads, I was amazed that people could stay clean. Watching the k*ds play, the family interaction, the open air church at night, the school k*ds coming home, the food for sale on the streets- people selling food out of the front of their homes, music in the air, the smiles on peoples faces made you think that no matter how bad it is, it is probably worse where they came from. People seemed to be happy.
It also makes me have even less patience with gringas-not that I had much to begin with.

You have done something very few will ever do..live as your novia REALLY does. I can guarantee you will never forget that experience, and that you will get a lump in your throat trying to explain what it's like to everyone else. And unless they do it, they will NEVER understand.

You have my complete respect.

Thanks RearWindow.
The mind blowing thing is that the mother is very unhappy with me. I brought about 21 photos of her family from the June 2 to 8 trip and she tore them up. She wasn't as friendly as then either.
Why? Because the daughter is not asking me for any money and she wants her to go to the DR. It's been that way for 2 week long trips now with me with the daughter the entire time. So I gave the mother 30K, but that didn't help much.
I adore the daughter and she knows that if she starts asking for dinero, I will see other chicas. She then would have a heart attack and/or put a knife into my heart. Or both. She does not feel that her "business" even compares with me saying hello to another chica. It's crazy that she can do her thing and I should not even have a woman clean my condo. I've never experienced jealousy on this level. Seeing a photo of another chica in my computer brought on a bout of hyper ventilating-I asked if I should call a doctor. It was for real!
I wasn't going to post about this trip-it was just too emotional and so great of a trip that words would not do it justice- but this thread just kind of flowed out.

Scuba,

Wow my freind, what a ride you are on. I can picture your "novia" and her little attack upon seeing your picture, as clear as a bell in my mind. So, now what, is the question?

Man..buena suerte! I will say..just when I think I have made inroads, I have only found another confusing intersection to deal with. It doesn't keep me from going, it's just another confusing intersection to overcome.

And the jealousy?! Don't get me started on that. An MX novia suggested a 3x with her amiga, and it was all good until I started enjoying her amiga. Atom Bomb goes off. It took the girl a full YEAR to finally admit she was soooo jealous she couldn't see straight.

And that's not even addressing the rumors I have to deal with, from other girls telling mi amigas what "they had seen me do with another chica".blah blah blah.

I've not had to deal with the madre thing, thankfully..but a friend has, and it is just like you described. They live in a different universe than we do.

RW- I remember your post about that. What a crazy life we live. I've been to several swingers parties that were mostly married couples and there was no jealousy. Then on the other extreme you have what we have experienced.........
Psychman.......I don't know what's next. I want very much for the ride to continue. At some point there will be pain, but for now, WHAT A RIDE! Sometimes days at a time in la cama without coming up for air. Thank you Pfizer.
