NEW YORK - A study of smells shows that the scent of grapefruit on women make them seem about six years younger to men. However, grapefruit fragrance on men does nothing for them.

The study by the Smell and Taste Institute in Chicago was conducted by Institute director Alan Hirsch. Hirsch smeared several middle-aged woman with broccoli, banana, spearmint leaves, and lavender but none of those scents made a difference to the men.

But the scent of grapefruit changed men's perceptions. Hirsch said that when male volunteers were asked to write down how old the woman with grapefruit odor was, the age was considerably less than reality.

Where does it say anywhere in that article that this phenomena was restricted to gringas?

Panama Daisy has been using grapefruits for years. Many of you may not realize this but she is actually 70 years old.

This story sounded like a joke and since Papi didn't cite the source of his information I decided to look it up. There actually is a Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago http://www.scienceofsmell.com/. But I think one really has to wonder about the credibility of a scientist that has appeared on Oprah more times than he's been published in JAMA. That said I thought you guys might find some of his other research interesting as well.

Here is another interesting double-blind study that the chicas might learn from. Dr. Hirsch and colleague Dr. Jason Gruss initiated a study to investigate the impact of ambient olfactory stimuli upon sexual response in the human male. They took 31 male test subjects and assessed the effects of the 30 odors on penile blood flow by attaching the subjects to a plethysmograph (I'd rather not think about how they did that) and comparing a subject’s brachial penile index while wearing an odorized mask to his average index while wearing an unodorized mask. Here are their results:

Each of the 30 odors produced an increase in penile blood flow. However, not all increased arousal to the same degree. The combined odor of lavender and pumpkin pie had the greatest effect, increasing median penile blood flow by 40%. Next in effectiveness was the combination of black licorice and doughnut, which increased arousal by 31.5%. And so on, all the way down to cranberry, which only increased penile blood flow by 2%. Depending on the man’s age, they may have reacted differently than their counterparts to certain smells. For instance, older men tended to respond strongly to vanilla.

So I can just order pumpkin pie w/vanilla ice cream for dessert to go and eat it off my chicas belly and then skip the vitamin V. I should be good all night! :twisted:
