If you're an experienced traveler to Costa Rica, you have undoubtedly discovered the utility of speaking some Spanish, if for nothing else than to be able to read a menu or follow highway signs. There are numerous Spanish phrase resources on the Internet, but unfortunately most of them are pretty generic.

I lucked onto a site which shows the Costa Rican idiom; local usage unique to the ticos. Did you know for instance that the ticos refer to Costa Rica as "tiquicia?" Or that the locals don't just say, "Cerveza" for beear, but use the easier to remember "Birra?"

One of the best lists on the page include the most widely-consumed tico foods, so you'll know what the hell you're ordering/eating.

The site is, as far as I can tell free, no log in required to read the phrases page, anyway. It's nicely laid out, and the phrases would make a useful print-out for study or reference.
