I didn't take a camera of any kind on my maiden trip a couple of weeks ago. That was dumb. I want a digital camera. 200 bucks or less. Any recommendations? Some video capability would be nice even if it's short.

One other question. Is there that much difference between 3.2 and 4 mega pixels?

Thanks......

Any Canon PowerShot

Not a lot difference between 3.2 to 4 Mega Pix. 3.2 great for monitor, e-mail, printing, etc.

Most PowerShots have decent video capabilities. 2-3 mins of ok video (for posting, etc).

I agree on the Canon Powershots.
I picked up a Canon A75 in November at Wal-Mart for $197.
Rated best for the price. It's video feature even rated higher than the A85 which is more expensive.

The downside is it's not as small and lightweight as some but for my first digital it's perfect.

From what I read the increase in pixels really won't make a great difference unless you plan to print larger than 4X6.

This is a great website. Select by brand, ratings or price. Also has numerous reviews and different sites to order from.

I use a Canon PowerShot SD100 3.2 ELPH it is small enough to fit into my shirt pocket.

I am very satisfied with the pictures. I am a big fan of Canon anyway as I have 3 SLR bodies and several lens but this camera is small and compact and easy to carry around.

Looks like Canon is winning out. I checked Wally World. They carry Canon. Doesn't mean that's the best price though. Now...... what do you guys use for the hidden video camera you set up in your room while in CR? Just kidding! Thanks for the info!

I bought a HP 305, for my last trip. Nice pics, it even has sound and you can make short movies with it. I got it for about $125 at Wal mart. I'm very happy with it for my first digital cam. It's much better at taking pics than $400 Panasonic video cam my bud bought for our first trip.

I went to K-mart a few months ago and picked out the cheapest digital camera i could find, the cheapest one for $99 dollars was sold out so i bought one for $125. Best investment ever!

Well you can talk about quality, video whatever but the most important thing to me was that this sucker runs on 2 normal AA bateries. Try to avoid those cameras you have to charge, it runs out quickly and then takes forver to charge back up.

Coqui,

Most of the newer digital cameras come with custom batteries not AA. They are rechargable lithium. But the big payoff is that they have the power to support a decent flash, a camera with AA will probably have a weak flash.

I came back from Rio last week with 60 pictures (sorry I can't post them as all the girls asked me not to put them on the internet), all taken with the flash and I left the battery charger at home. Most of the pictures turned out good, it was my bad technique that made a few look poor. I have filled a memory card with over a hundred pictures without recharging.

Canon!! Canon!! Canon!! I just stepped up from a Canon G2 which worked great for me the last 3 years or so and splurged a little to buy the Canon Digital Rebel. Besides I have 2 older Canon 35mm camera's and have NEVER had any problems with any of them and get AWESOME pictures out of them.

I use Canon S500. The S410 is just as good with 4 MP.
See www.dpreview.com which is the prime digital camera review site.

Read the reviews. I need at least a 5 MP camera for big enlargements of scenics but for usual use, you may not need near 5 MP.

For heavy scenics I use a Canon G5 now replaced by the Canon G6.

The official camera of the GMAN!

Size and weight are ideal for in your pocket with no bulk, about the size of a pack of smokes.

3.2 megapixel which for Internet use is more than enough... Upgrade and buy a 256 or 512 mB card from say Best buy and you can not only take hundreds up to thousands of pictures on one card depending on your resolution setting, but take video with it also.

For portability and performance.. This camera Rocks..

NO I this is not a commercial announcement!

NOTE DONT Buy accessories from them just the camera.. I recently saw 256MB cards at best buy for 19.99 after rebate... Which is dirt cheap.
