Two blocks south and 7 blocks east of the Taormina. Second shooting in the area since Sunday, that one was in a public park.

Who says there in no action in San Jose during Semana Santa.

Hotel La Familia
Directly across from the 7-10 bus terminal. Av 7 is the same road that the INS building is on.

BTW, there was also a drive by shooting Tuesday afternoon at Park La Merced. That is near Hospital Juan del Dios and the Coca Cola bus terminal.

Somebody must hate busses.

If you want to see a real gunfight with mass casualties, go to Florida (state in USA, not CR). They don’t do drive-by, they stop and shoot.

Just giving some perspective. Don’t come at me for promoting violence.

I noticed last night at the Taormina that security was locking the front door at 11pm. They would unlock it for people coming in and out.

Must be trying to conserve air conditioning.

Does the doorman still keep the pistol grip shotgun slung at his side, barely hidden by his jacket?

Why was he even trying to hide it? Flaunting it would be a deterrent.

Violence is definitely picking up. As mentioned I don't think it is any more dangerous than any major city in the USA. My biggest concern is collateral damage.

A working girl friend of mine that I met up with when I was in town last month mentioned that she doesn't go to Taormina as much as she used to given the crime. She had mentioned that a cab driver was killed right in front the hotel in March. Somehow this flew completely under my radar:

Almost exactly one year to the day that a guy was murdered at the front entrance:

There has definitely been an uptick in violence in CR since the pandemic. We aren't usually targets but anyone can get caught in the crossfire.

The victim, who had a history of drug possession, “ La víctima, quien tendría antecedentes por tenencia de drogas,” pretty much tells the who, what and why.

But, thanks to LocoGringo, we know where to find a shotgun in case you want to return fire or just lay down suppressive fire to make an escape. The gunman had some firearm that shot 5.56mm and another firearm that shot 9mm. “ Casquillos de balas calibres 5,56 y 9 mm quedaron esparcidos”
