RIP Dear Sir. I felt like I had met you on one of my trips. If not I know I would have enjoyed the camaraderie. |

I just got back from sjo, Gary was found dead in his apt. on April 7. After not being seen in the SL for a few days a welfare check was made & his body was found. He was in the SL on most nights & I chatted & ate & drank with him many a time. He was a good guy, enjoyed his life, & we had many of the same chicas we enjoyed dates with. While there I found out another longtime crt'er who coincidentally used to occupy the same table Gary did @ the SL had died in November. Big Mark from Chicago, Donpapi on crt, had passed on. I met him in 2005 @ Bar Idem, us being the only gringos in the joint, & he was very helpful to this rookie. He hung there nightly & then moved his action to the SL, 5 or 6 nights a week. Health problems got to him, he returned to the usa, then came back to sjo & died where he was happiest. My generation of mongers are slowly disappearing. At age 68, with many health problems & feeling poorly, I myself wonder how little time I have left. I was able to "rise" to the occasion this trip but feel I have few left in me. So all you guys out there, enjoy life & don't put things off as time is not on our side. |

I met Gary on both of our first trips to the SL back in Dec 2015. He had just retired from Boeing and was ready to live the retired life. He was a fixture at the SL. He had stopped drinking for awhile as his health deteriorated significantly in the 7 years since we had met. Last time I saw him was in 2022 and he was ing good spirits. RIP Gary ![]() |

Sad to hear about Gary. I spent a lot of time talking to him in the SL on a few trips last year. Always fun to talk to and always had a cutie by his side. I last saw him this past November as health issues have kept me from traveling. RIP |

RIP Gary and Mark Not sure I met this Gary but Mark ( Don Papi ) was legend and like with Sin City, he was helpful to another rookie Phoenix Rising. In the earliest days of CRT he held court at Idem and was the go to guy there. I recall he was a language professor, we had some great convos at the SL. Yeah SC every day above ground is a gift these days! Enjoy wjile we can! |

Gary was a great guy. I always chatted with him on my visits. One time he told me a funny story about him being so drunk that he fell out the back door/window of the bar (you know the table with the breeze and awning facing back to the street near the old zoo entrance) to the street below. Said he his fall was slowed by an awning and he ended up on his back looking at the sky.. lol. Wasn't hurt. Had to walk in through the service entrance and come back up to the bar. I told him they should install a plaque to commemorate the event. Miss that man. RIP Gary. |

I always hung out with Mark at Idem in the 2005 to 2012 or so time frame. Lots of good laughs. I was in my thirties at that time and would go upstairs two or three times per night with different girls. He was always encouraging me to do another session. LOL. |
