Has anyone known somebody or had experience with flying to Costa Rica with a small amount of Medical Marijuana. I know it is illegal, but I was just wondering if LEA in both the US and care about small amounts 5 gms or less?

I know a guy that got 5 years for less than 5 grams. In Costa Rica. The law has not changed as far as I know. Perhaps their enforcement has but I would not risk being public about it.

Zeos. One again I texted the ticas. you are correct recreation smoke of marijuana is illegal, but medical and therapeutic smoke of marijuana is legal. Maybe that’s why they told me not in public. Also with Medical marijuana you can have up to 3 g total. That’s what they told me.

I personally cannot Smoke Marijuana. I’m still working and after vacation I’ll always (70%) get call for drug testing.

The law permitting medical marijuana has passed, but has not been implemented. If you do a google search, you will find several online dispensaries touting their services but saying, in effect, coming soon. Once 'implemented' you (tourist, resident or citizen) will need a CR prescription. As 'luck' would have it, these dispensaries will have doctors that can give you a prescription in person or over whatsapp. To muddle the waters further, there continue to be motions in the legislature to allow for recreational use.

Be aware: In CR, the legislature passes a law, the executive can sign off or send it back to the legislature, the courts have their two cents, then the appropriate ministries (health, police, etc) develop protocols to implement the mess. Anywhere along the way, shit can happen. For example, the current law originally passed in 2020 but still isn't implemented.

CR has two fluctuating realities. The way things are supposed to work and the way they actually work.

In my opinion .... If you are found in possession of 3gr while in CR the worst likely outcome is confiscation. If you get caught with any amount coming through customs you run a risk based of the climate of the day. Once in CR, you can find a wide range of options very easily, just ask the chica you are negotiating. However, with this approach the price, quality and purity can be suspect.

To the OP's original question, my advice would be to bring nothing easily detectable through customs.If you do, don't wear a Brittney Griner jersey. When you arrive at Jaco, find the homeliest girl at the Cocal and buy a small quantity of what you want, you can also get your first budget nut out of the way at the same time. This way your fortunes can only go up for the rest of your trip. Also, good luck on your transition ...

In other words, just buy it there in small amounts as necessary.

I can't smoke anymore but I remember that when I did before, it wasn't the best or cleanest weed, but it's better than what I used to smoke in the States back in the 90s.

The Costa Rica dirt weed was decent. Like I said, I compared it to the weed I smoked in the 90s.

There's some out there today that downright scares me.

Zunbake As someone who has smoked daily for 30+ years I don't leave home without it ... The TSA doesn't care about your flower, vape pens or edibles nor does CR. Don't buy into the misinformation on this forum and post .. CRT seems in need of community notes like X !

Unless your OK with much lower quality flower than you will find at your local dispensary in FL, because nothing you will find in CR will be as close as good THC or as affordable.

TF74 I hope you don’t fly into Texas. Any use of marijuana is still illegal in Texas, I also believe is illegal federal law.

Flying with weed is Illegal, per my TSA employed neighbor. Only medical marijuana products that contain no more than 0.3 percent THC, like edibles/vapes, are allowed and you would need to prove the medical need when TSA calls local law enforcement or DEA to arrest you. No weed that can be smoked by joint or pipe allowed. They don't specifically search for it, but he said if they feel they need to send you thru secondary screening and find it, you're not getting on the plane!
