Getting to the that point in life where as a precaution, going to start purchasing travel medical. Cancellation , lost baggage , that crap I don't need. Any experiences with having to utilizing it in CR? THE claims process, ? going to in Network Hospital doctors? Allianz ? Trawick? United Healthcare Global? AND YES I have used the search function. I think it's a wise purchase regardless of age, as most Medical Coverage's thru employers in USA do not cover out of the country Medical. Ever since Covid and seeing the minimal costs, I now buy a policy thru Trawick International every trip for the peace of mind. No claims yet so no info on that but I do recall when I called Trawick prior, their Customer service was always helpful in answering questions, Might be worth a try to call and ask your concerns. |

For the past 2 years I have purchased a travel medical insurance policy with GeoBlue. Depending on the number of international trips you plan on taking during a 12 month period, I found it to be far more economical to purchase a policy for a 12 month period rather than purchasing a policy for each individual trip. Fortunately I have had no need to utilize the policy as of yet. While researching as to which company and policy to purchase, GeoBlue had a well defined and organized customer service assistance program (on-line and over the phone) to assist you or a family member as to which "In-Network" doctors, labs and hospitals in CR to utilize. As long as you used the "In-Network" providers, you did not need to pay the bills as GeoBlue would pay the providers directly. Also it is very important to make sure that any policy you purchase includes adequate coverage for "Medi-Vac" services and costs to transport you out of the country and back to wherever you want to go in the USA. |

As an example of the need to also have a policy that adequately covers "Medi-Vac" services back to the USA, a friend of mine was in CR with his friend who got sick in 2018. His friend was in a hospital in SJ for 2 weeks and when finally stable enough to be "Medi-Vac" home, his family had to scramble to come up with the $47,000 that had to be paid in FULL before the plane, pilots, doctor and nurse from the USA would even be scheduled to go to CR to pick him up and fly him to USA. My guess is that same "Medi-Vac service in 2025 would be $65,000-$70,000. |

Check with your employer as well. I broke my ankle in CR in 2019. I went to the local ER and they confirmed my break and put me in a cast. No charge. I happened to call my boss about the break and she notified HR. HR contacted me about a benefit I had where if I was injured more than 100 miles from home, they would basically transport me home. This was not a life threatening incident but the benefit had a nurse contact me and she set up a pick up from my location in CR to the airport, booked a one way flight home and a ride home from the airport in the states. My only out of pocket expense was an injection before the flight to prevent a potential blood clot. |

Emergency evacuation insurance covers the cost of transporting a traveler to a medical facility or home country in the event of an illness or injury while traveling. This benefit can also be used to evacuate a traveler out of danger during a non-medical emergency. What is covered? Medical evacuation: Transportation to a medical facility for treatment, including medical supplies and services Repatriation: Transportation back to the traveler's home country after treatment Non-medical evacuation: Transportation to a safe location during a non-medical emergency, such as a natural disaster How does it work?
