Post subject: | Sad news on one of our members Flander |
I just received an email that Flander one of our elder members has passed away. He battled an illness that was very painful and the one consolation is that his pain is now gone. He was to have met me in February and was also planning to return in May, but his heath wouldn’t allow it. It was my privilege to have met Flander in May of last year. HungLo and King Costa were there as well. Flander and I met up with Vegas Bob and made a date to go to Princess Marana for dinner with some ladies we had met. Having made friends at breakfast at the Presidente we continued to correspond. He enjoyed the time spent with Vegas Bob playing black jack as well as the others that he had met. Thanks to CRT I was able to make his acquaintance. He bought Lands End shirts and had CRT and Costa Rica Ticas embroidered on them so people would recognize him. He enjoyed CRT and the people he met from the board. We shared a lot of stories and laughs over that week we met and the time in between trips. Then in October King Costa, Philly Rookie, Flander and I spent time together in Tamarendo. This was a fantastic time away from the gulch and an opportunity to get to know one another. We stayed at a house that King Costa has there. During that time we listened to Flander tell jokes and stories from his past. He would bring us flavored condoms of the day at breakfast which he had brought from home. He would pass out a different flavor each day. If you didn’t have the honor to have met Flander you missed something. Flander enjoyed life and lived it to its fullest. I will miss my friend very much. |

Sorry to hear about Flander, and also that I did not get to meet him. PhillyRookie spoke highly of him and of what a character he was. I actually just missed meeting him by a couple days in CR last year. I know he had some good friends here and will be missed by them. |

I met Flander several times. He was a good guy, and since he was Irish: Here's to the wine we love to drink, and the food we love to eat. Here's to our wives and sweethearts, let's pray they never meet. Here's champagne for our real friends, and real pain for our sham friends. And when this life is over, may all of us find some peace. Amen and Salute. |
