I'll be visiting Costa Rica in October and wonder if Del Ray is still the hotspot it used to be. The last time I was there was around 2005.

No it is not. It has reopened but it is no where near what it was in 2005. Toarmina is now the hotspot. I have not seen the quantity of chicas at Toarmina as the Delrey had back in the glory days, but I have seen plenty of hot chicas and good providers at Toarmina. Unless you have a very specific type, I am sure you will find chicas that will satisfy you.

Died and Gone to Heaven. As a matter of fact the entire hobby, as it existed roughly 20 years ago, has died and gone to Heaven. Don't get me wrong, there's still fun to be had but nothing remotely close on the scale to what it was during the Glory Days.

The old days of the HDR are gone.
I was in SJ in April 2023 and the place was mostly empty. Small crowd on Thurs - Sat night.
Casino closed. Key Largo closed, Del Mar restaurant is open.
I noticed the mgr at 5pm shift change are measuring certain liquor bottles with a old time wooden measure stick. I havent seen this done in decades. Blue Marlin and Lobby bars are open 10am - 2am.
For the first time ever, I stayed in one of the standard rooms booked thru Expedia Canada for $63.00 CDN tax incl. per night. I was surprised the room was very clean and comfortable.

The Del Mar restaurant is open? That's news to me. Is the interior the same or have they made any changes?

I know back in the day the Del Mar wasn't really rated at the top of most lists but I actually used to enjoy it very much. The food was good but what I mainly enjoyed was the ambiance. It was a great spot to relax and enjoy a meal with some good wine for a couple hours before meandering over to the KL just steps away when it used to be a smoking hot club. I have many fond memories of those KL nights.

When I was in CR during May of this year, I ordered food from the Del Mar and a guy walked it accross the street to the Del Rey. I did not ask if dine in was open because Me and Liz were getting our drunk on at the bar.

Yes, the Del Mar restaurant is still open.
https://maps.app.goo.gl/hAY3bBqENe4zfajm9?g_st=ic

It is a part of the Key Largo Cultural Center & Restaurant
https://www.facebook.com/KeyLargoCultural

Just on Friday, they started a new art exposition running until September 30.

There are some interesting Dali-esque works. At the exhibit opening there was also some Flamenco dancing. Mostly old folks when I was there, definitely NOT monger oriented.

For you, they just grab a swizzle stick.

It seems like most guys have answered this question, I'll merely top it off with an appropriate Stones song...

I'm a ghost
Living in a ghost town
I'm a ghost
Living in a ghost town

You can look for me
But I can't be found
You can search for me
I had to go underground
Life was so beautiful
Then we all got locked down
Feel like a ghost
Living in a ghost town

Once this place was humming
And the air was full of drumming
The sound of cymbals crashing
Glasses were all smashing
Trumpets were all screaming
Saxophones were blaring
Nobody was caring if it's day or night...

I'm a ghost
Living in a ghost town
I'm going nowhere
Shut up all alone

So much time to lose
Just staring at my phone

Every night I am dreaming
That you'll come and creep in my bed
Please let this be over
Not stuck in a world without end

Preachers were all preaching
Charities beseeching
Politicians dealing
Thieves were happy stealing
Widows were all weeping
There's no beds for us to sleep in
Always had the feeling
It will all come tumbling down

I'm a ghost
Living in a ghost town
You can look for me
But I can't be found...

We're all living in a ghost town
Living in a ghost town
We were so beautiful
I was your man about town
Living in this ghost town
Ain't having any fun
If I want a party
It's a party of one...

Those old ticas make the same observation about the old gringos at the bar.
