So I go through the steps, drive 30 miles to a post office so I can submit fingerprints electronically, and I get this one page letter from the Justice Department lightly printed on cheap paper that basically just says, "He good." It does say it was based on running my prints, but it just doesn't look like an official document. Anybody else get one of these recently and confirm that all it is one-pager on DOJ letterhead that looks like it came out of a copier? Also they say they don't return the fingerprints anymore. I hope that isn't an issue. |

I hope that isn't an issue. I'm guessing you were getting some kind of clearance letter? Local Police and Sheriffs departments provide it for employment purposes. Including a fingerprint check. The check includes Federal, state and local , it comes on official letterhead with the department seal and phone number to call for verification. But yep, once the government takes your fingerprints or DNA they got it forever. No issue for me , they took my fingerprints for the military when I joined up. |

Mine was as simple as a letter from my local sheriff stating that I had lived in the area for over X amount of years and there are no issues with warrants and I am in good standing within the community. My first document was almost 4 months old when I was able to return to Costa Rica and not in Spanish. It was suggested to get a new document since I was going to be returning to Costa Rica in about 45 days so I had my law enforcement agency reprint the document in Spanish as well on their letterhead, which cost me another $10.00 for the letter. I did not need fingerprints. |
