Looks like the the new President is listening to the travelers and those in the travel business. This should more than double the amount of officers on the payroll. Will be interesting to see just how quick they are hired, trained and put in service.
Both international airports get extra staffing

When I arrived yesterday there was one person ahead of me at immigration. Looks like they need tourists not immigration officers

You may get lucky with timing, but it is definitely something that needs to be fixed.

As President Chaves said “Costa Rica’s tourism brand was being damaged by the historic, legendary lines at the airport, spending four or five hours in that line”

In the last year plenty of us have endured the 3 hour or more immigration line. It has happened to me multiple times, just ask my driver. I have also walked right up to the booth. It totally depends on how many planes have just landed and immigration officer staffing levels.

Two months ago, after enduring a wait of over three hours, when we got close there were only two immigration booths open. The line was moving so slow many people were just sitting on the floor. The time between having to move 4 feet made repeatedly getting up from the floor a reasonable alternative to standing. That’s a staffing problem.

They don't need em anymore. Took me just a few minutes to get through immigration 9 days ago & san jose seemed to be devoid of tourists, especially our type.

Happy to read this. My longest wait was last July 2021 took me about 90 minutes which I know some have experienced longer waits and yeah same thing I saw some people tired and sitting on the floor as the line moved slowly.

I am more concerned with flight delays and cancellations with my travel just under 3 weeks.

Phoenix Rising you never mentioned what time did your flight land ?

mid-afternoon is always a crap shoot because if you get in before one of the European wide bodies it's a quick in-and-out. Get there right after one of the wide bodies and it's 60-90 minutes.

And I'm talking about the planes, not the gringas

Spirt or JB, right?

Right after Spirit lands at 1130 they have 5 more US flights (JB, Delta, AA, United) arriving from the US in the next 30 minutes.

Thank for sharing

You must of been the 1st of many flights to land as this is a very popular arrival time as mentioned above ... the Delta flight I'm on arrives 11:45 AM and tends to be a few other flights arriving as well, but its all about timing could be 5 minutes or over an hour
