I hear the risk is usually among gay and bisexual males. Though being in close proximity can get you infected. It's not as infectious as Covid19. |

The current wave of monkey pox spread in that community with some post covid parties, but it is spread by close contact and there is no reason to think it will not spread as easily in the hetero community...assuming similar numbers of partners and close contacts. So it is ideally suited to spread in the community we hang out in, where there are multiple partners in close contact. Perhaps a difference might be that there are less "parties" in our community, ie. orgies. But as far as I know it has nothing specifically to do with gay sex per se. Unlike aids, which was spread more readily through gay sex. |

Another factor is many of us are of the age group that received a smallpox vaccination. Smallpox vaccination is about 85% effective against monkey pox. The US stopped routine smallpox vaccination in 1972. If you are over 50 not something to be overly concerned about. |

There is a new virus that is a hybrid of Covid and Monkey-pox. It is known as either Corona-Pox, Monkey-Vid, or my personal favorite, Monkey-19. The only way to avoid it is to get a booster every four days, wrap a wet sheet around your head and snort paxlovid. You have been warned. |

From what I have read, the smallpox vaccine is pretty much totally expired / no longer effective for us that received it back in the 60s. If you get a current smallpox vaccination it will supposedly be pretty effective against the monkeypox virus. |
