I spent some time at the Rey last Friday and Saturday.
I must say, it was really nice to be back as I never thought it would happen.
All the old slots and some gaming tables gone.
For not having been open too long and with new competition from El Castillo and Taormina, I was somewhat impressed with the talent and I am sure it will only get better.
Kinda pricy. Shot of Patron's 8 mil. Cuervo 6 mil. Across the street in the restaurant, a bowl of chicken soup: 8 mil. The soup was good. But, damnnnn. 8 mil?
It will be interesting to see what eventually happens there.

Glad to hear it is back to life. When drinking there I usually stuck with the local beers & rums which back then were reasonably priced. Can't wait to return to what, at one time, was 1 of my favorite places on earth!

I stopped in to check it out. Rooms are twice of what they used to be. Beers are twice the price of what they used to be.

Whinecat it is always something with you. Gringos have been paying a hundy for years in Costa Rica and you act like the new breed of visitors are ruining the landscape. Sorry Charlie I want tuna that tastes good. As far as the Del Rey, if someone wants to go and spend a few extra bucks for a beer why do you care? I am happy that the HDR is back open. If I have to pay a couple extra bucks for a beer so be it. Open is better than closed.

A Silver was a little less than 1,800. Doubting they were 900 before.
And again, I have to agree with Rob. All of us are wealthy in comparison to the girls working to feed their K*ds and that we hire to make us feel better about ourselves. Yet, some of you gentlemen are sofa king proud of weaseling them out of $20 or so. I don't get it.
Seems like bad Karma to me.
Pinchi ass gringos.

I recall local beers going for 1,500 in 2018, are they 3,000 now?
The liquor was never cheap in recent years, many a story about the chicas ordering liquor (incl doubles) and then the gringo getting the bill and being shocked.

I never thought they would re-open and I am glad to be wrong. I congratulate the owners and wish them well. The HDR was always a source of memories and sometimes mammaries, but never a place for cheap eats & drinks. For me, the spectacle was the attraction. That element depends on the ladies and gents that visit.

Long live the King!

I also add best wishes
for the HDR reopening.
Back in 2019 if I was at HDR & met a woman who like to drink/eat.
I would just take her next door at Bar Chubbs or Bar Streets NY & grab some good food/drinks at ok prices.
& HDR reopening is great news for the Casino Club Colonial to have more people in the area.

I don't think 3000 colones is too bad for a beer. After all the dollar is trading at about
630. So that would be about $4.75. What do you pay for a beer in a bar in the U.S ?

Tuanis... I don't know where most people go but I have a place close to me that is $5 for a Corona. I imagine Bud and Coors may be in that range.

krszzt...you are correct about taking the gals somewhere else to eat. Chubbs has great burgers and chicken tenders, and the Colonial is one of my favorite spots to eat. Plus both are a few hundred feet from the HDR.

But is easier to whine about the prices and find fault with a place unlike any other place I have ever been. Hope it gets back to that level. You do have to make sure you watch your change but so do you everywhere.

@ the current exchange rate of 640-1 or so, 1800 col for a beer

is approx. $2.80usd. That is a great price for a beer while surrounded

by a multitude of latina women wanting to have sex with you!!!

No way you're going to find a beer for less that $5 in the states at any bar that actually has a selection of women. no, the bars where women go to actually try to get picked up, beers cos $8 or more. Strip clubs are raping guys to the tune of $10 or more for beers now.

I am lucky enough though, that I live in Houston, and we have Korean lady bars in a couple of areas. They are usually $4 for a domestic, but the ladies will want one too @ $12, and they are all 50+ (although some still look okay). Not to mention, in Texas, these activities are now a state jail felony for the men.
