The other day I posted on here that I needed to see a Dr or go to a clinic because I twisted my knee pretty badly. Thanks to Boyton, he recommended the Emergency Room at Clinica Biblica. I took an Uber to the Emergency Room entrance on Calle Central. I went in, talked to a person in reception (who spoke English) told him my situation and had a seat. I was happy to see it wasn’t crowded and in about 15 minutes, I saw a nurse who took my info, looked at my injury and took my vital signs. She told me she was going to notify a knee specialist to see me. I saw the Doctor who examined me and he wrote me some prescriptions and sent them to the pharmacy on site there. I went back to ER waiting room and waited about another 15-20 minutes until the receptionist called me up and gave me my prescriptions. Now you milage may vary but my consultation and prescriptions came to around $150 (I was prescribed like 5 different things including an injection to prevent infection) Maybe a little pricey, but I needed to see someone ASAP and I am going to submit claims to my insurance back home in the States. Also, it was very professional hospital, it’s not some fly by night joint in the back of an alley. If you ever have something serious happen (god forbid), it’s the place that I would recommend.

Glad Boyton's recommendation worked out for you. Clinical Biblia gets a lot of business from medical tourists, so I'm not surprised they were able to make a gringo feel comfortable. For what it's worth I've interacted with the CR medical system several times over the years, and in every situation I came away impressed.

Whitecat will probably bust your chops for paying over Cien!
I think 150 for all that, plus Biblica's stellar care and staff, is a deal. My copay for a walk-in Urgent Care is more than 150!!!

My routine cardiologist appointment (every 6 months) including ECG and pacemaker check/adjustment is c75mil ($120), My endocrinologist appointment (every 3 months) is c55mil ($87). Those are full price, no insurance. I have both CAJA and accident/illness insurance, but I have only used the CAJA for COVID vaccinations (these aren't yet available at private hospitals).

Hospital Cima up in Escazu is good too if that area works for you. Used to be affiliated with Baylor University.

Cima is where I go if I have the option. I am amazed at how quick they get things done. I have had multiple blood draws and get the results within an hour usually, had no appointments and was able to see doctors without much wait even an ultrasound and biopsy the same day. My deductible and copays would have been at least triple what my out of pocket was for everything I had done.
