I want to correct the original post and add on the ground comments. There are only 2 known positive cases as of yesterday not 6. I know this because I am the 1st. I have had both Pfizer Vaccinations. The information in the media about how few fully vaccinated people are infected with Delta Variant is misleading as they are only including the seriously ill. Neither I nor the other person have ANY symptoms. We both found out when we received the test needed to re enter the USA. Further reading of information is that if fully vaccinated the symptoms are really evident and most are extremely Mild. I believe I have tracked it back to 1 girl who was sick 2 days after I met her. Since it takes longer than 2 days from exposure for any symptoms it makes sense. She later took the test after I told her I was positive and is in quarantine for 15 days. My order was only 10 days since I had both vaccinations. I believe I was exposed on my 4th day (I found out day 9) but each day at both Sportsman and Taramina before and after exposure my temperature was taken and normal. I am taking my temperature daily and no fever.
As far as how Hotel Castillo is handling it I am very impressed. I am on day 6 of testing positive and I receive a call from Matt every morning and at least 1 or 2 more times each day asking if I need anything. He has told me to message him a list of what I need and checks to make sure I have ordered my meals and if not, he takes the order. He personally has gone to the store to pick up items I need. I stayed at Castillo in my room until my reservation ended because they were completely booked for the days after. I am now at Amistad and anything I need or want (within reason) has been delivered to me. The attitude of the entire staff has been fantastic. I receive what’s app message from several asking if I am ok and if they can get me anything. I am getting phone calls from staff asking if I am ready to order food. I also notified each Chica so they could be aware, and many send me message as well.
I almost did not buy the insurance, but I figured for less than $100 why not be covered and I am very glad I did. The other person did not buy it. This is my 3rd trip since end of April, and I still plan on returning in November. With the vaccine chances of being sick is very low (BREAK THROUGH CASES) and the inconvenience has been worth it to me. My 1st trip here in Jan of 2015 I caught the flu and was sick for 2 weeks immediately after I returned home. This is nothing compared to that!!
Pura Vida

Thanks for the update and glad you are ok with no symptoms

Sooooo, IMHO
1. CR is having another peak as they continue to vaccinate more citizens and residents.
2. If you are vaccinated, there is a small chance you will contract COVID. You would probably be asymptomatic and the chances of serious illness or passing it on are VERY small. You will however have to quarantine until you test negative (10 days , more or less). The lesson = buy cheap ass insurance to cover these costs.
3. The Castillo (Matt in particular) continue to go over and above requirements to make the best of a difficult situation. I have confidence the Sportsmens (Bill in particular) would do the same. I would NOT have the same confidence in the Taormina. I EXPECT that if you were at an AirBNB, you would be phucked (and not in the good way). The lesson = the SL and Castillo are the best places for tourists, especially now.

There is still poon-galore here. If you are vaccinated, the odds of you getting seriously ill are very low. The chances of you catching it from a fellow guest in the bar or restaurant are also very low.

There are breakthrough infections in the US or CR, the difference is the return test and chance of quarantine. As with ANY international travel, there is the chance of becoming ill (flu, food poisoning, clap, ebola). If you need a 100% guarantee of a trip without "complexities", stick to PornHub, Jergens and Puffs tissues (get the ones with lotion). If you are yearning for tight, moist, willing poon at far less dinero than a dope-sick, gap-toothed, heroin addict ..... well make your own choice.

All I can tell you is that the information came from one of the positives and he indicated three earlier and three more on Saturday were positive. Either way just use the information to make good decisions again I am sure if you asked Matt he would tell you not to be an idiot and buy the insurance even if you are vaccinated. I know I heard him tell someone that exact recommendation.

Thanks for the update. Glad to hear those that have contracted Covid are doing well. I'll be there the first couple weeks of October . Wasn't going to buy Ins. until I read this report. :)

Very happy to hear that all (however many that is) are doing well. And kudos to Matt and staff at Castillo/Amistad for how it is being handled. Get well soon to those who have tested positive.

Hi all Matt from Amistad here. We did have two people test positive for covid upon exit testing. All are doing fine and we have them quarantined in Amistad. Castillo is operating as usual and we had professional cleaners disinfect the rooms. These are the first cases since we opened. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Darren at the hotel. On a side note we are opening hotel amistad this month (soft open) and are currently excepting reservations.

Also I strongly suggest that everyone gets the insurance for covid vaccinated or not as the price is small compared to the coverage.

Regards
Matt

If you re issued a 10 day order (& not a 14 day order) to quarantine by the CR Ministry Health.
*Is a 10 day quarantine then accepted by US airlines at SJO ?
Or do US airlines require the 14 day US CDC specification entry to US?

(Pardon if this specific question
has been answered.)

From What I am able to get information on the airlines only care about a negative test but I am on Delta and the information has been very hard to get a reliable response. . I plan on uploading my negative test per the Delta app and website. They say nothing about quarantine.

To return to the USA you have to be able to show a negative Covid test (PCR or Antigen) taken within three days of your flight. I have not been able to find any quarantine requirements if you have previously tested positive so if you get that negative test, you should be good to go.

I am headed down to San Jose in mid-October and am planning on staying at the Castillo for quite a few days. Hopefully they will be allowing the ladies to hang out again by then. And after reading this thread, I did go to the Trawick site and buy the insurance. 24 days with $1200 trip cost (same as $0 trip cost for some reason) was $87. Very cheap for peace of mind.

We restricted the girls by appointment only for this week only to be safe. Next week we will allow them to hang out again assuming no more problems. The reality is the girls and guys go back and forth between locations making it hard to pinpoint the problem as the two cases were asymptomatic.

You can also try buying Trawick insurance from Insubuy instead of directly from the Trawick site. Using the same 24-day, $1,200 cost parameters it generated costs of $48 for a 50yr old and $80 for a 60yr old.

It's nice to get an update from 'boots on the ground". This entire 'thing' leaves more questions than answers. The rules can change by the minute and many of us are confused and turned upside down.
While we can be healthy, we test negatively positive and are told its Asymptomatic. You can be verifiably vaxxed, and booster bumped and feel great , but....
At this point, "Resistance is futile" .

There are no questions unanswered except those you manufacture. You get the freely available no-cost vaccine, get on the plane, you wear the mask (you are also forced to buckle your seatbelt which serves no purpose either). You party to the limit of your libido and wallet. You get tested. When you can show a negative test, you go home. There is nothing to "resist".

I had to show a negative test to someone one time just before I got to the check in counter. It was never asked for again after that. I did mine at the airport location the night before.

Do these travel insurance policies pay hospitals and hotels directly? Or must we pay ourselves and struggle through following up on filing claims?
