The app that will be used to read CR's Vaccination Pass has been released. It doesn't work on Apple devices, or Android ones, only Huawei (Chinese).

No news yet regarding how to implement QR codes for gringos? I imagine it will be somehow be linked to the health pass you need to enter the country. I hope it's printable, because I hate to carry my cellphone around in the gulch. I agree with people getting vacced but what a pain for all of the bars and sodas.

No problem, that's what the chip was for.

Chip Douglas? I'm senile, I only remember 60's sitcom actors at this point.

Here is a dummary (sic) of how Foreigners will get a vaccination QR Code. At this point it appears to be a separate system than the current Health Pass, since vaccination would not be required to enter the country (hippies who live in the jungle, only eat fruit from the trees and buy COVID insurance). Note, this is all speculative filler from "watch this space" government spoke-monkeys.

I am now totally confused. The US does not issue QR codes for its people. I thought the QR code you received prior to boarding the flight is all one needs? Will I need to apply for another QR code once I enter CR, and if so can I obtain one at the airport??????

Of course the US does not issue this. But many countries do. No matter what, there will need to be some system for verifying that you have received you vaccinations in your home country which Costa Rica will look at and then issue you their QR code which you then use either on your cell phone, or printed out on a paper copy.

Exactly how they will operate it remains to be seen. Perhaps it will be incorporated into the Healthpass thing, perhaps a seperate QR code with that...who knows.

The article that started this post was about the devices to read the code. So business owners in Costa Rica will need an app to read the code which "proves" to them that you have been vaccinated.

Just use the website https://salud.go.cr/ . You can take a photo/Screenshot of it. Can also print it. Takes 5 to 10 minutes to fill it out. No big deal.

That's the existing one you need to complete before entering the country. What we are talking about here is a new one that everyone will need if they want to enter bars, restaurants, etc. Not the same.

The new QR code will also be required to enter hotels. It is quasi-optional on December 1, but mandatory on January 8. After that date, hotels are REQUIRED to refuse you entry. If they fail to do this, the government says it will fine and/or close the place down.

Bear in mind these important dates
December 1 - The vaccine pass to come into effect for EVERY human being in Costa Rica (citizen, resident, tourist). Hotels, restaurants, bars, etc. can delay requiring it if they keep current restricted occupancy limits. (19 days away)

January 8 - The vaccine pass MUST be checked in order to enter any hotel, restaurant, bar, etc. YOU must show the pass either on your phone or a printed copy. The VENUE must scan the pass to validate. At this moment, the app to read the code is only available on the HUAWEI app store, not Apple or Android. (57 days away)

February 6 - The TICOs vote for a new election. They will elect a new president, two vice presidents, and 100% of the legislative deputies (57). If no presidential candidate gets at least 40% of the vote, a run off election is held April 3. There are 26 different candidates and the current president cannot run and the leading candidate is from a different political party. (The current president says that this will not change anything)

May 9 - The new president takes office, the current president leaves. (The current president says this will not change anything).

And today, the courts have suspended implementation of the vaccination QRCode until there is a judicial resolution (10:11am)
https://www.crhoy.com/nacionales/tribun ... codigo-qr/

To which, the CR president has responded (11:45am)
https://www.crhoy.com/nacionales/presid ... codigo-qr/

Get vaccinated, follow the changing rules, come and have a great time. SNAFU but not quite FUBAR
