I'm arriving SJO on Sunday night and will be in downtown just before10 PM. Since United says that they do not serve meals on flights to Latin America, what are my options for getting some dinner? I'm staying at Castillo but their restaurant may be closed by then. I heard that the curfew goes into effect at 10:00 p.m.

Thank you in advance for your advice and suggestions.

PS: I am already starting to miss Chelles.

Sure you can email Castillo and order something which they can save for you ...

I think the curfew was extended until 11 pm though I imagine that the Castillo kitchen closes well before that.

Uber Eats would probably deliver something.

You might be able to make it down to Bar Poas for some late night Chifrio. Pack some snacks just in case.

Call the Castillo that day and they will prepare your meal and keep it in the kitchen. Upon arrival, you can pick it up and reheat.

Lollypop reading this reminded me of my trip down in Nov. when I found nothing open to eat in Concourse F in Atlanta airport and this was at 5pm , other than a airport Newsstand with some risky Fruit, Tuna sandwiches or Chicken Caesar wraps in a cooler. luckily I had enough time between flights to jump on the plane train and hit another terminal before my 4 hour flight to SJO, like you knowing the Castillo kitchen would of been closed by then and I needed some dinner.

Castillo : I missed out on dinner few times last trip being occupied with company in my room :D but the Kitchen closes at 8 last order is 7:45 you can email them an order if you don't mind eating cold food I reckon :| someone mentioned about warming up ... maybe ? just not sure about any microwaves available.

I also ordered Uber eats a few times when I missed my dinner even after the curfew they delivered on motorized bicycle.

I have since then traveled few times domestically and now always bring some Panera or grab a Jersey Mikes sub for the trip.

Gents,
Thanks for the priceless suggestions. I have rearranged flights to arrive SJO at 6:45 PM. Still not in time to make it for dinner at Castillo but I should be able to walk to Central and find something open. Understand that Chelles is no longer in business so probably fast will be the best option.

You may be surprised how many places gave closed on Central. If you want to stretch your legs, you could get something from the Taormina sportsbar or order UberEats from over 100 different restaurants and have it delivered to the Castillo.

The open kitchen has a microwave and the staff is more than accommodating in this as it is common for them.
645p arrival at SJO improves your schedule in general and same applies for pre ordering, you just may not have to heat it up if your ETA there is ~8

I was recommended a great seafood restaurant open 24 hours that is a 10 min Uber or Taxi ride from the Amistad / SL / Castillo area. It's called Deflines con Amor. The food is incredible. It's on Avenida 24.

Be aware that if you are taking a friend, there are some expensive dishes there. Make sure she orders the regular stuff and not the steak and lobster platter.

They also do takeout.

I am in no way affiliated with the place, food is just damn good, and options downtown late at night are limited.

Thank you very much for sharing. I'll make sure to give it a try. If not on the day of arrival, then sometime during my stay.
