For years, I have been buying medicines from the Korean on Central. I also used to go to the one near Amistad to get Valiums. I knew I was getting ripped off but I had lot more money back then. Getting Valiums from the pharmacy near Amistad with script fee :? was easy albeit hell a lot more expensive than in USA as the psychiatrists here are more very strict.
I'm looking for a pharmacy which is walking distance but not a tourist rip-off.
I'm coming to San Jose in three weeks and would like to bring back some antibiotics and Tramadol liquid without having to pay tourist prices.
Your guidance will be greatly appreciated.

You were not paying tourist price, almost guaranteed. Some drugs are very expensive in Costa Rica. If you want generic versions you can sometimes get them very reasonably. But most brand name drugs will not be cheaper.

I don't believe you can buy most U.S. control drugs OTC down there any more. Only one I can get is Soma (Carisoprodol) and maybe Valium.

And then even if you buy and with C.R. Doctor Rx do not think is legit in U.S. to bring back.

Safest bet and if you can get to U.S. MEX border crossing there is a loophole for 50 dosage units of most meds. even control drugs but you must declare and cannot exceed the 50 dosage units each day.

As for the regulations, 90 days worth medications can be brought into USA with proper script. It is on a US website that I don't have handy at this time.
In CR, many pharmacies will give you a script with a doctor's fee of $20 or so. I have done it for years.
I see a psychiatrist here and have a valid US script for Valiums.
My question was how to buy them cheaper. For example, Oxyforte will be a whole lot more at a known tourist shop as compared to a regular Pharmacy somewhere else.
My plan is to bring Tramadol liquid that works real fast for my girlfriend's period pains and some antibiotics for myself. And do so without paying an arm and a leg.
A pharmacy on Central quoated me $90 for liquid Tramadol and that was an inflated price.
All this was exactly a year ago and the laws may have changed and in that case I stand corrected.

I was taken to La Bomba in San Pedro one time cause was told it was cheaper and not too much cheaper. Some drugs within C.R. the prices are controlled within a band. Once in Perez Zeledon all I needed was 10 antibiotic pills and cost $100 but in San Jose found them much cheaper.

I wish you the best in your quest and please let us know if you find a good affordable farmacia option.

Cheer!
D
