All flights out of Canada to "Sun destinations" have been suspended until end of April. I'm assuming that includes Costa Rica. And I don't know about flights to US sun destinations, the announcement was Mexico and the Caribbean.

Returning to Canada is even worse, if you happened to have gotten out while there were flights. You have to have a test before boarding the plane to come in to Canada, you will have to be tested again at the airport when you arrive, you will then have to go to a federal quarantine facility (hotels set up for that) for 3 days to await your test results from the airport test. This is at your own expense, and estimated at $2,000. If you test negative you have to go into your regular quarantine for 10 days more. Everyone has to have something set up and a plan in place for this quarantine, as in an approved quarantine plan. And it will be monitored by law enforcement, with fines and jail time as penalties for non-compliance. Then at the end of that 10 days you have to have another PCR test to be clear.

Pretty well kills any idea of travel.

Sounds like the US will implement similar return requirements but with a self monitored 14 day quarantine. I dont know how they plan on enforcing it, probably just opportunistically.

I really dont understand it as most foreign destinations have a better Covid situation than most of the USA.

Our only hope is the airline and travel industries lobbies fighting it. F

Not here in Canada...the Airlines voluntarily agreed to suspend all flights until the end of April. And Canada's Covid situation is a bit better than the USA, but we have very little vaccine so will be delayed in getting that relief.

We have had a quarantine requirement for returning residents or visitors all along, but that is being toughened up. Canadians put the pressure on the government to do these restrictions as there is a perception that travel puts everyone at risk.

I also predict that this spring, summer, and fall governments will do what they can to encourage domestic tourism and discourage international tourism. They will cite the dangers of new strains plus the benefits of spending your dollars close to home. For the single male traveler, San Jose offers something you won't find at Dollywood, Tn.

BTW, I heard that the Canucks have switched nasal to anal swabs, I guess it is a poutine thing.

On my first trip to the frozen north, I thought the waitress asked me if I wanted to try her poontang. I was sorely disappointed.

Who would have thought. The Chinese test only needs to go in 3 cm. The Parque Morazon ones I would guess are mas profundo.

I am amazed that any airline would readily agree to cease flight operations until May. Or, that they could survive that long after the last year.

Four airlines have agreed to cease flights to the Caribbean and Central America/Mexico. They still operate in the rest of the world. And I suspect they, like airlines in other countries, will be getting some money or loan guarantees in exchange for this agreement.
