Not sure that is a good comparison...but in any case there is a lot of pressure in Costa Rica to "clean up" their reputation and get away from any image of being a sex tourism destination. And the HDR was the most prominent symbol of that. And so far every major hotel in the downtown area has distanced itself from the sex trade. And there are lots of tourists in normal times. The Holiday Inn downtown seems to generally be very busy with tourists, although not during Covid probably. And a complex including the HDR, along with Sleep Inn, and 2 casinos - and assuming they renovate a bit - could be a major tourist draw for centro San Jose. I would not bet against it. And it might be moving that direction under some level of threat from authorities that would not allow the old business model to continue.
