Getting ready to head out to CR this friday. Figured I'd throw out yet another newbie (no completely new, but it's been many, many years since my last visit) question: How much are cigarettes (Marlboro Lights, etc) in CR?

I'm figuring they are fairly reasonable as alot of the chicas in the VIP pics are smoking :D ! No punn.

Thanks in advance, Hal01

DUTY Free about 11/12$ per Cartoon I think but I'm not far off.

I paid $ 15.00 a carton for marlboro .....other major brands are the same.
(duty free shop)

At one time there was a promo of a "Box" of 4 cartons @ around $50.00

Around the "Gulch" it's still under $2.00 per pack.........

As stated before, the cost of smokes at duty free is SIGNIFICANTLY less than what you would pay for a carton at a gas station or supermarket in the states.

In the Del Rey, I'm almost positive I was paying 2 bucks for a pack of marlboro lights, which once again is way better than what I pay stateside.

5 is correct number for cartons brought back to U.S.

I usually buy my cigarettes at the local Mas x Menos for @$12 per carton. About the same as the duty free shops, give or take a couple of colones.

Hey Guys:

I don't know if this has been posted yet. After a 5 hr. flight from PHX I'm dying for a smoke. The airport is set up so that you can de-plane, walk toward the foodcourt, go downstairs and smoke in the smoking bar before immigration. The smoking bar front door stays open late, at least until midnight. Once in line at immigration, a security guard will not let you back into the gate area...so smoke one while you can.

This just goes to show that sometimes a newbie can ask a really good question that no one has thought to ask before. Here is another one. Has anyone here ever tried any of the CR brands such as Derby? Are they any good?

Good thread ! All I smoke when in CR are Derby Suave Extra. I guess that would translate to extra smooth or extra lite ? They are are approximately the same as M-Lights or Camel Lites. At the duty free shop I think they are around $8/carton.
