For anyone traveling next week, be aware that timatic hasn't been updated and still says a negative PCR test is required. Timatic is the system airlines use to verify required travel documents.

I just checked the American Airlines website this morning, there’s no longer any mention of PCR test being required. Only the insurance And health form requirements are showing now. I travel next Friday, November 6 so hopefully I’ll know more then

I just purchased travel insurance from Trawick international. They insure exchange students and have a Costa Rica traveler/ visitor plan that specifically shows the $2,000.00 lodging insurance... Its called the Safe Travel Voyager plan. link provided here: www.trawickinternational.com/products/s ... ls-voyager
I bought it today and plan on arriving on either the Nov 1 or 2. I will try to get on after arrival to the hotel to let you know they accepted it or not. I put down the cost of my trip at $250 for 10 days and the price was about $30.00 total. 7 days was less than $5.00 cheaper ... but you can't extend after purchase, so I just got it for 10 days in the event I wanted to extend.

The company is based out of the US the 866 number (866)467-8289 was full of static.... almost like a fax line but the (972) 985-4400 on their contact us page I got a real helpful person. I was apprehensive about giving my information by filling out the form, which asks for your passport number also... its part of what has to get uploaded to the CR website.

Below is an update of my Nov 1 entrance to CR.

Hello and good afternoon! I arrived on flight 2221 American Airlines out of Miami to San Jose today on 1 November. On page 6 I have a report on travel insurance. I purchased the travel insurance two days ago filled out the medical form that you had to fill out where you get a QR code for Costa Rica. I uploaded the declarations page and and at that time they were still asking for a copy of your drivers license to be uploaded also. After that upload and submission I got a QR code right away. I arrived at the airport got in the immigration line and was checked twice one by a roving lady who had her phone checking QR codes, it would turn green on her phone if everything was OK. I did see her however get some people out of line because there was an issue with their paperwork another words the QR code when she scanned it did not turn green on her device. Mine however did and I was allowed to enter the country after showing the immigration person how many days my insurance was good for which was 10 days he put down 11 days on the passport stamp which is usually 90 but they are going by how many days you have insurance. I may post a link to the insurance one more time here because my insurance again I Set the insurance amount to $250 the trip amount to $250 and then for 10 days of coverage or 11 days of coverage from the first to the 11th cost me cost me less than $30....At age 50. Beats the hell out of $12.00/day!

The above were brought over from another thread by me, the original poster, in an effort to give all who look here an affordable option to the required insurance needed.

Happy hunting,

Frank680293

I know people don't want to think about it, but it appears that Covid has not gone away yet. I have been in touch with only 2 chicas from CR since I was last there around a year ago. Both have or have had Covid. Both worked at the places we are all familiar with.

I'm not going to name any names - the one that had it is long since recovered, and the one that has it now is isolating/quarantining as required, and she basically has no symptoms.

And I also know the demographic of the monger crowd, many are older, most male, many with various health issues.

Will we ever know how many among us gets it while doing our thing in CR? Maybe it doesn't matter, but it seems highly likely to me that some will get it, and some may have poor outcomes.

Guess that's why I'm hesitating to come back.

Yeah. Have to agree. To each his own risk tolerance, but between their risk factors and ours and what we do there will be casualties.

This may be sort of off topic.. but does anyone on the ground there have any info on the Volcanic hot springs.

The last 2 times I have come I have taken the tours to Arenal and the Hot Springs were spectacular.

I have tried to contact:

https://www.arenal.net/

And well... :?: :?:

Does anyone know if the Hot Springs are open and if there any COVID restrictions?

We will be staying at Sportsmans but are happy to pay any kind of private car/tour/whatever as long as we can have a half day or so at the Hot Springs.

TIA :)

Yes the different springs are open. Not sure which tours are operating.

You said "we", so I assume you have multiple people in your group. This makes hiring a private driver/guide especially attractive. Group tours will spend a lot of time picking up people and dropping them off at different hotels. A private guide can put your group wherever you want to be in the shortest time. Day tickets to Baldi can be bought online for c35mil. The only person I have used is "Pops" and I have not been disappointed.

For a change of pace, especially if you have a favorita with K*ds, consider Termales Laureles. Admission is c4mil per person instead of c35mil, c3mil for K*ds under 10. It is definitely more of a local's waterpark than a tourist spa. If your group is a just a bunch of middle aged gringos you will be out of place.

You can reserve a rancho (pavilion) and have your own BBQ or use their onsite restaurant. I took a chica with her mom and 3 siblings. We left San Jose before dawn, got there in 3 hours picking up groceries on the way, cooked lunch and dinner at in one of the ranchos and left at dusk. Dropped mom and siblings off and were back to SL by 10pm. I did have a rental car.

I have to agree. As much as I miss Costa Rica and all the great times I have had there, I think it will probably be late March or April before I think about heading back. Also, with all the great news about the vaccines coming out, I will probably wait and take the shots before I head back as well. Since I am not an essential front line worker, I think late spring is about the time I will be heading back.

I'll head back to SJO possibly late spring (and definately get the vaccine prior to any overseas trips). Hoping Thailand and PI gets it together by late fall next year, looking forward to doing a trip there also.

Thanks Frank for info

Good info, thank you. My 10 day trip was about 110 using Sagicor, so nice to see a cheaper option.

Good news and bad news. Today the government announced new restrictions. The good news is the airports are still open with no new requirements. The bad news is slight changes in existing restrictions that will effect your stay from New Years until the end of January. The worst of the restrictions effect the general population here worse than tourists. Bars and casinos will be restricted to 25% capacity down from 50% capacity from Jan 4th until Jan 17th. The beaches will close at 2;30pm daily. Driving will be restricted lowering the hours over the New Years weekend and on weekends. I don't know how this will effect the Sportsman's and Castillo. I believe the bars there are only open as restaurants and there are no announce restrictions on the restaurants. It has been at 50%. A couple of weeks of headaches but not the end of the world.

I just had a fun trip..... We made it halfway down from Los Angeles and the pilots were notified that one of the people on board had tested positive for Covid. Costa Rica refused to allow the plane to land and we had to return to Los Angeles. Wasted 5 hours flying for nothing. Well, it gets better. The person who was positive was moved to the back of the plane 1 row behind myself and another gentleman. We were told once the Health care professionals removed the positive for Covid Asshole from the plane, we would be allowed to deplane and then they would give anyone onboard the option to either stay overnight in LA at the airlines expense and fly the next day, get a refund, or get immediately onto another plane that was flying to Costa Rica with a new crew, because they needed a plane to fly pasengers out of Costa Rica for the next morning. Well as it turns out I was not allowed to board the next flight, as well as 8 other people, as the brilliant flight attendants decided instead of leaving the infected person where he was in row 7 or 8, where he has been already sitting for 2.5 hours, they would move him to the back of the plane, behind where I was sitting. Since they decided to move him, now I am banned from flying until 14 days of Quarantine by the CDC. We could not even drive to Mexico and get a flight as our passports, we were told, are flagged by the CDC. So the options I had were, I could stay at a hotel that they would pay for, for the next 14 days, or, I could rent a car and drive home and they would pay for the rental car. The other affected passangers that were standing around trying to find out what they could do, thought it was hilarious when I asked, So if you are going to pay for my hotel and food, which I will not be able to leave my room for 14 days, who is going to pay for the hookers. Everyone laughed and I responded with a resounding "I am serious, I am not spending 14 days in a hotel without hookers". The look on their faces to that, was even more hilarious. Anyway I chose to rent a car and drive. Apparently being within 2 rows of and infected person and on the same side of the plane will get you a MANDATORY QUARANTINE with a stay at home order. What I find really funny though is that if I am now AT RISK OF BEING INFECTED, why was I not told by medical professionals what I needed to do and what symptoms I should be watching out for, yada yada yada. One would think if this shit is so serious I would have been consulted with someone from the CDC or a medical professiona. Nope, only airline employees. Oh and they did not have me sign anything saying I was being forced to do shit, and I acknowleged being told I might have been infected, what a crock of shit. This phucking paranoia is way out of control and is going to decimate businesses all over the world. YOU CANNOT STOP A VIRUS and unfortunately people are going to die. If I am one so be it but for Christs sake killing the ecomomy for the shit is phucking stupid. Most people are intelligent enough to know what to do to lessen the risk of contracting it and will do so. I refuse to wear a mask unless I absolutely have to and yes I had mine covering my mouth and nose the whole time I was in the airport and on the airplane but I guess those pieces of shit make no difference as the guy sitting on the isle in my row who had an N95 Mask on the entire time and did not remove it to eat or drink was still denied boarding the next flight and has to Quarantine as well for the next 14 day. There is a lot more to this than meets the eye and it has nothing to do with looking out for the massses best interests..... Its all about money and power to see how many rights can be taken from the public before shit really hits the fan. I for one know where I stand on this issue and it is not with the paranoid sheep.

Typical non-believer who confuses a health issue with a political one. Your individual rights stop at another person's nose and mouth. You appear to not being touched by the virus as in a close friend/relative dying from it. I have had a relative succumb to Covid. It is real and most of your rants are political, not about health and science. The restrictions you have experienced are for the health of both yourself AND OTHERS!. Get over it and respect others around you.
