This was a welcome change. Went into the Rey tonight and there was a pretty decent band playing classic rock, calypso and latin music. I asked about a half dozen people and the response was that they either play on wed-thur-fri or just wed-thur. Trust a tico staff to not know what's going on in their own joint. Or maybe it varies. I dunno. Anyway, it was an upgrade for me, as the people were definitely more lively and social with them playing. Very positive change.

I went by the Key Largo to see if they had made any changes there. Same crappy live music there. Both security and the bartenders said that they aren't doing anything at all to promote the place. Bartender was practically begging me to buy a drink and keep her company. If she'd been better looking I might have.Maybe 8 people in the joint total.

Thanks for your updates to the scene at the Rey and Key Largo.

That's good to hear at the Rey. Was there dancing ?

Key Largo used to be a lively, hot place. There was a singer named Wallace who was really good. A thin , slightly aged black who did great Reggae and Latin. In the past few years it has gotten so quiet even on a Saturday night. The bands seem decent but there are only a small handful of people at the bar and no one dancing. I don't know how they can stay in business.
