Where in the "gulch" is the best place to exchange US Dollars. I know HDR and others offer this service, and no problem for small amounts. Where can you find the best rate on $1,000 USD or more? Thank you for the help. |

Go to a bank. There is a BCR a block west of the Del Rey. Bring passport. The back desk of the Colonial casino next to the del Rey will exchange up to 200$ or so at good rates. |

There is also a BCR branch on the second floor of the INS building. Seldom a long line except around lunch time when a lot of INS employees seem to do their banking. Be sure to bring your passport, original - no copies and be sure the bills are in pristine condition. Definitely no tears and no writing on them. |

Lots of security to go upstairs? |

Definitely no tears and no writing on them. Never been inside INS. Lots of security to go upstairs? You have to pass a security guard. Just tell him you need to exchange dollars and he'll point you to the escalator. When you go inside the bank office, grab a number and have a seat. They will call you when it's your turn. The most I have ever waited was less than 10 minutes. |

One more item for the bank in the INS building. No shorts, hats, or sunglasses. Security guard will not let you in. Well, they might allow shorts as long as they are not ragged. I tend to only wear long pants while around town, but I know they will make you remove your hat and sunglasses |

Shorts were never a problem at the INS building. Previous poster is correct. Hats and sunglasses must be removed. If the guard on the first floor doesn't make you remove them, the guard inside the BCR office will. I believe this is pretty much standard procedure for a bank. They want to get a nice face picture on the cameras in case you are up to no good. |
