In other words, women who were interested in selling their bodies and using this gentleman to facilitate ( for a fee) meeting potential clients to provide their own (fee based) services contacted him. And this is considered “trafficking” ???

Puh lease

I understood from the day I set foot there that no pimping was tolerated
why get anywhere close to that line?

Article mentions women with no passports, so likely foreigners....hence the trafficking.

From what I have seen, the "laws" here tend to be poorly defined an erratically enforced. Sometimes you will see enforcement actions around elections and holidays, but they can occur at anytime. I never saw any coverage in the Tico media which is odd. These usually get token airplay for publicity's sake. Given that, I figure this was a one-off action rather than a trend.

I'm curious what happened to the client's information details.

Even when actions take place at hotels, strip clubs, and MPs, there is not much to concern the monger. Just make sure the provider is of age, have your passport copy, be prepared to wait. Also, make sure you are only carrying legal substances.

Don't use an escort service in CR, and don't drink the guaro.

Great advice Boynton, and also, don't pay up front!

In addition to the arrest of the suspect, at his home in the community of Desamparados*, in San José, agents seized cell phones, cash in colones and dollars, computers, a camera, and other devices and documents of interest for the case.

Apparently, offering a job to a woman who is illegal or down on their luck is taking advantage of them. This mentality so prevalent among the anti-prostitution camp. That a woman couldn't possibly decide to be a hooker on her own. He should have tried to recruit woman from the high-class barrios.

To add, if he's overcharging dumb tourists $200 for his hookers, why is he living in Desamparados? It's the dump of Costa Rica.

Not sure why anyone is surprised at this. It is, or as far as the information in the article, clearly pimping and/or trafficking, and against the law in CR and most other places in the world. The courts will ultimately decide if it is that.

Right or wrong, it is pretty clear that any male who makes a living profiting from sex work in Costa Rica, with the exception of hotels, clearly puts themselves at risk.
