I quit smoking in the States a decade ago but I still enjoy it while on mongering trips with the guys. What is the smoking scene in San Jose and Jaco?

Can you smoke inside anywhere nowadays? Or even outside by the pool at Cocal? Or is there limited/designated smoking areas outside? And what approximate % of people (girls & mongers) who still smoke?

In Mexico & Europe, you can still smoke inside of bars and nearly anywhere outside. And in those destinations, about 30% of the girls & about 20% mongers still smoke. And the girls who don't, do not seem to mind if you do.

You can't smoke cigarettes inside anywhere.*

Outside you have to be 5 meters from a building entrance (IIRC).

*The exception is that you can smoke cigars (not sure about legally smoking cigarettes) on premises of a licensed tobacconist but the shop can't sell food or alcohol.

Stop by the Havana Humidor Room in San Jose. Good cigars and a comfortable place to smoke them. Av 9 y Calle 3A, 2 blocks north and 1 block west of the Holiday Inn.
Get genuine Cubans and many limited editions. Also, great La Trenza de Nicaragua cigars.

Smoking is not allowed anywhere on the Hotel Cocal property. You have to walk out toward the beach to smoke
