Just ran into this post on a gringo facebook page. I thought we had until April 2019 before this went into effect ???

New news from CR Hoy dot com....finally, the government has gotten all its ducks in a row to charge expats who overstay their visitor visas (three months) and/or any residents whose cedulas have expired....

It's $100/per month for each overdue month, and you cannot return for 3x the amount of time you overstayed.

Example:
If you were due to leave in Sept and you left instead in Oct, you would be charged $100 for Oct, and could be banned from re-entry for three months.

Went into effect today at both international airports.

Gee and to think I know someone that has been in this country since 1997 and has never left, also he no longer even holds a valid US passport. I sure hope he gets caught fined and then kicked out.

Nancy Pelosi and her ilk want sanctuary cities in the USA. They are traitors that would be in jail 200 years ago.

Props to CR for enforcement of their visa and immigration laws.

10 years ago I lived here for 2 years, I had a job running an online gambling site. I'm from South Florida and in those days it was easy to get a SpiritAir round trip to Ft. Lauderdale for under $200. :)

Not only did I dutifully obey, but I almost always did 80 days just to be safe, if anything happened I had 10 days...yea, I'm anal... :?

One guy at my company had a customs contact who would stamp passports for a fee. Lots of gringo employees took advantage of that, but not me.

Since the flight was cheap and I enjoyed heading home, seeing friends and family, doing and getting things not available here and enjoying some blistering tanning at my favorite beach, it was like a vacation for me, and the place I worked had numerous gringo employees and understood.

Some of my fellow gringos mocked me and called me a paranoid sucker...

Then one day the bottom fell out and the customs guy was busted and somehow they got discovered. Some were ordered out of the country and some hired attorneys and paid big to find a way to stay, much more so than if they had spent the money returning as they should have...

I told one...NOWWWWW who's the sucker??? :?: :?: :?:

That was 2008-2009, at that time it was a major hassle to just get a cell phone here.

When ya coming back down again? You might try Castillo next time, same owners as La Amistad and you can request rooms with a big porch with an incredible view of the Zoo gardens, and you eat free at their restaurant as well as La Amistad's restaurant.

And...no trains...

Just down the street from SL a block or so headed west. Give me a shout when you come!
