Post subject: | Who was Cuba Dave? |
I am young and new to mongering. The first I ever heard of Cuba Dave was a post on this forum talking about his arrest. So I have no first hand experience on what he did. I checked out his website and all I can find are postings about his trial, asking for donations for his lawyers, etc. A search on YouTube finds only a couple interviews he did on other channels. All of which are pretty generic and bland. So as far as I can tell, he has since removed all of this questionable content. (probably trying to help his case) I've also noticed that every time his name is brought up on the forum, the discussion seem to get heated, with his fans/defenders on one side and his haters on the other. Without seeing any of his content first hand, I can't form an educated opinion on the issue. And as threads with his name keep appearing at the top, I am very curious. So hear are my questions that will likely cause a heated debate: Is there anywhere left on the internet to view his content to make a first hand opinion? Did anyone from the forum meet him in person? I've seen many other websites/blogs/etc talk and give advice about mongering. What was different about what he did? Why is any discussion of Cube Dave so heated? Is it the specifics of him/his case? Or is he just a lightning rod for a deeper issue within the community? What lessons can young/new mongers learn from the controversy over him? Thanks all in advance for educating me and all of the other new members. |

All due respect... why start a new thread on this versus asking in one of the existing CD threads? This article is a bit dated but is pretty good grounding. http://www.miaminewtimes.com/news/cubad ... dy-6394213 Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk |

The crux.. his very public brand threw a spotlight on a hobby that most would prefer to keep under the radar. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk |

To briefly sum up Cuba Dave's problem, it was how he went about discussing our hobby. He would take photos of chicas, sometimes without their knowledge, and post them on public forums, without asking or even telling the chicas. That is a definite no-no. Many of the chicas are engaged in this business without their families knowledge. Because he had created so many problems for chicas, and their clients, there are many people who dislike him. I think that dislike turned into looking for anything to use against him. His ego overtook his reasonable thinking. Just like the two guys in Medellin who met their demise, I think he thought he was "too big to fail". There are many people on this forum who have met him, although I never did. As to what you can learn: treat the ladies with respect, don't post any photo unless all the people in the photo are okay with the post, do not boast about what you do. |

A gringo who profited from P4P in multiple countries, had a huge web presence, thought he was bigger than the laws of each country, and now is the sweetheart of cell block C. He was, it should be noted, warned and advised by many to ton it down; he is a victim of his own arrogance. He also exposed many chicas without their permission, causing many a great deal of harm for his vanity and profit (even though, very small profit). Wanna-be frat boy who never grew up, and played a very stupid and dangerous game VERY publicly. |

I met him once at the HDR, many, many moons ago when I was fairly new to Costa Rica, he was a friend of a friend and he sat with us awhile. None of this controversy existed at that time and among his friends he was considered a "cool guy", or a Costa Rican version of "big man on campus" ... "big man in Costa Rica". ![]() I will say before I met him, he had quite the reputation of being a big mouth, a braggart, arrogant. ![]() ![]() Just in my short time with him he seemed to be just another monger to me, but I could tell he relished the lime light, the big shot status he enjoyed with these other guys and showing off that he knows these chicas and has a friendship with them that he can snap his fingers and one will come wiggling to the table... I'm one of those suckers that if you're nice to me I'll be on your side so I felt terrible when I read of his arrest and I donated to his get out of jail fund. I felt the government gave a much more severe penalty than what he deserved, but after hearing how he had been repeatedly warned to stop his excessive behavior and then acting arrogantly after getting clear and fair warning, my opinion is unfortunately he deserved to get into trouble. It boils down to this; every time you visit the Costa Rica main airport here, it is jammed packed with money spending tourists; families, nature tour groups, surfers, education groups, all here to enjoy the natural wonders, all with credit cards and cash. Costa Rica will protect this at all costs and his excessive behavior was getting the mongering activity more publicity than Costa Rica wanted. Obviously they worried if this information grew too fast, that might endanger the flow of this much much larger group of money spending "clean" ![]() Agree or disagree CD's penalty is too harsh, a shot was fired across the bow and highly unlikely anyone else will voluntarily step up to the plate (no pun meant on his baseball past) and run their mouths off and alert the powers that be that their money supply is once again being jeopardized by another loose wrench in the well oiled money making machine... ![]() |

He was a monger like all of us, a little crazy and strange. He would never be worthy of mention if he hadn't been arrested. He committed no crimes but be flew in view of the radar and got took down. It's a reminder to all of us that someone is always watching and to keep it down. Some members haven't yet learned the wisdom of not publicizing themselves or their amigas. |

After being Banned from the Dominican Republic and getting a colonoscopy when arriving back in the US from customs and border patrol, one would think, you would come to the reasonable assumption, that the authorities are not playing around. I was in the DR a couple of weeks after his debacle, there were a lot of people talking shit about him (Business owners and workers). They were glad he was unable to return. He was a good part of the reason that the changes took place in Sosua as the negative publicity was too much coming out of his mouth. I strongly believe that had he not been so vocal on promoting the DR that Passions and the other clubs would not have been closed. |

A similar episode happened to me almost a couple of years ago at Theos Bar. I recognized him from his videos and introduced myself and said I was glad to meet him in person. He sort of looked at me like so, what do you want? I excused myself and thought, that guy is a bit of a tool, no time for the little people I guess. Cuba Dave, that is. |

One would think with all his narcissistic behavior he would be excited when would be "fans" introduced themselves to him, since he relishes an audience and all that attention. I guess the reason he was cordial with me and my friends is these guys already knew him and vice versa, and I treated him like any other monger I met, I never said anything to him about his fame or infamy, just guys talking about the girls walking around. He did take over the table the moment he sat with us and made himself the center of attention, doing a certain amount of bragging... It could be in your case he might have been previously approached by guys who gave him a "what fer" ![]() |
