I will not give many details. I am not bashing Del Rey. I just letting others know the consequences if they do these actions since I was not aware. This has also happened to other American guys living in Costa Rica too.

Been going to Del Rey a while. I was recently banned because I was told that I did not spend money there and was seen recommending other places to other guys (massage parlors, etc). I was told to get up, leave and am not allowed to come back. I did not know this can get you banned. I also talked to a American living in Costa Rica the next day who told me he got banned for recommending a restaurant. Pure coincidence I ran into him.

I am letting you guys know. If you are not staying at Del rey or are not spending money (drinks, gambling), they really do not want you there hanging around the place. Also, they do not want you talking about other restaurants, casinos, massage parlors that will bring business away from there. This is their livelihood. Like I said, I am not speaking negatively about the place. Just saying this can happen to you too if you make the same mistakes. You have been warned which I wish I was. I take responsibility for my ignorance. Good luck everyone.

Don't fret. You're in good company. Many have been banned - - - usually for just a "while." Then they get reinstated.

But one guy, Alberto the Sausage King, died before his ban was lifted.

I've only been to Costa Rica. My next trip will be Medellin Colombia. I will also most likely go to Thailand and Philippines. Not trying to make light of the situation. But I will try to experience new things and bring along the wisdom I have gained. I'm in mid my 20s now so hopefully some time will pass and I will be allowed to go to Del rey in the future

Also why was Albert banned?

That's understandable. I'll leave this to rest because being infamous in a third world country is seriously not the way to go.

How do they know that you were talking about the competition?
Were they talking and a bartender overheard it?

Makes sense. However, most clubs or bars will give you warning that you must buy something before they kick you out and ban you. Spending some money would not have been a problem. Just wish i would have gotten fair warning. Only reason most guys come to Del Rey is for the girls. Its cool if they want to make money too. I just wasnt aware. Its like a spouse or girlfriend that snaps on you yet you didnt kknowthe resentment was building up the whole time.

I'm 3 drinks shy of being able to respond in my usual pithy but just shy of condescending tone.

First, thanks for posting this. Others should be aware.

Second, look at it as a favor and encouragement from the universe to broaden your horizons. You knew about those other places enough to speak of them... so to that I say good start.

NOT! I live in Thailand. You can't go to a Strip club here without buying at least one drink. Stop being a Free-loader and buy a water at least! "Cheap Charlie" is the name the girls here will give you for being tight! I give nothing but good advice. Take it - It's FREE!

Whenever I would go to Sportsmen lounge or Zona 2, I would always buy food or/and drinks. Always. At Del rey, I never felt pressured or the need to since I was always in the lobby where I was most comfortable at. Honestly, I would have had no problem spending money if I would have just gave me fair warning. I paid for drinks, stayed at the hotel and gambled at their black jack table in the past. The people at the front desk know me and say hello. I only found out me not spending money at the time was a problem after I was kicked out and my friend found out and tried to vouch for me. Seriously, the main main reason for me being kicked out was because I was discussing the competition openly. Can you blame them? No. I deserved it and anyone who does this deserves it too. I take responsibility for that. Del rey knows what their doing. They are a successful business.

At this point, I have alot going for myself with my career and I'm in my mid twenties and I'm relatively young. Essentially, I got kicked out of a whore house that I am seriously not supposed to be in (no disrespect to Del Rey). There are much worse things in life than this. I'm being real now. Honestly, I plan to go to Medellin Colombia where the women are hotter, give better service, cheaper, more likely to do things, and easily contactable since many have facebooks and whatsuapp numbers (I have a shitload of contacts already). I just want to say I wish the Del Rey the best of luck. Its a amazing place. If you go there respect the place, act like you a guest, and spend money for the livelihood of the people who work there. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for that type of fun in Costa Rica. Have a nice day and keep living the dream everyone.

This seems very short sided on the Del Rey's part. I'd love to hear more details from you or other people who have been banned.

How frequently would you hang out at the Del Rey? And for typically how long each time?

When you discussed the competition, were you possibly drunk are speaking really loud? Or did you possibly do it next to the front desk or next to the bar tender?

I could see them kicking anyone out who developed a reputation of spending several hours a day several days a week without ever gambling or buying anything. But I find reality difficult to imagine. Every time I am in San Jose, I always stay at the Sportsman's lodge. But usually once a night during my stay, I pop over to the Del Rey to pick up a girl. I am usually there for 30 minutes, in which time I've usually purchased 2-3 beers. In and out.

How much time would you spend in the Del Rey to get noticed?

Also, the place is always so packed that I find it strange that management would be listening to anyone's conversations. Do you hang out when the place is less busy? Or hangout near employees? Or do you think the security is paying much more attention to each conversation in the place than you would expect?
