This is a topic I have wanted to speak on, but have been hesitant on because I'm not the type that likes to cause drama. Nevertheless, I have some things I need to get out.

First off, so you all know where I am coming from, this site has been great to me. Probably would have never even gone to Costa Rica if not for CRT. It's a wealth of info and advice from people across different life spectrums and I would like to personally thank Pops (who I've never met in person, but hope to one day) for a PM he sent me that gave me a different perspective on life in general.

After being on 3 trips and being a lifetime member here for a few years, there is one thing in particular that gets under my skin. There seems to be a divide among the members. Of course divisions are expected when there are any number of people involved.

I'd like to try and get to the root of this issue so here is my personal viewpoint :
There are 2 extremes to the types of monger that visits.

1) EXPERIENCED - The older/experienced member has been mongering in CR since the 'glory days.' This monger likes mainly skinny (flaca) women and looks at mongering as a real and important sport. The sporting match is won when they manage to gain time with a lady for as cheap as possible, for as long as possible. They will take their time and assess the nuances of the current game and its players before making a final play. They have had so much pu*sy over the years that they value new exciting experiences and a woman's physical beauty is not as important as her attitude and level of quality of her services.

2) NEWBY - The young buck full of testosterone that comes to CR with one goal in mind..........Phuck as MANY hot chicks as possible. Price is not much of an issue. He is thinking that this will be a one time trip and spending a few hundred bucks a day is not a big deal in the least. This monger grew up in a time where women were full of themselves and using various men via social media or by other means is the norm. He has experienced spending a few hundred dollars on women for dates and not even seeing a nipple. Costa Rica is paradise to him and spending $200 to Phuck a model quality woman is a gift. Spending $100 for an hour with an 8/10 is a DREAM COME TRUE.

As stated above, these are the extremes and most of us fall somewhere in between.

So what is my issue ? I get annoyed with the unnecessary bickering that occurs from time to time in these forums. To be honest, much of it starts with a new member asking a simple question. That question is met far too often with sarcastic statements, rude responses and/or statements akin to "shutup and go look it up yourself."
Ironically the time and effort spent on NOT answering the question could have been used to simply ANSWER THE QUESTION. Not everyone has time to lookup and read lenghthy older topics within the forums. I have a few buddies that only come on this site via private tabs for short periods so that their woman doesn't find out (sad but true).
The same thing goes for trip reports

In closing, I would just like to ask that people try not to come across as cocky or know-it-alls. There is a way of passing on knowledge without causing resentment to the person who posted a question or trip report. This site needs both types of monger. The experienced member to pass on useful info and the newby to inject new life into these forums and remind us of that excitement we all had when we first ventured to that beautiful place - Costa Rica.

Very well said . I have been a lifetime member for several years now . I also avoid asking questions for fear of sarcasm .

Good post with good points. Having been a long time member of this and the previous website, I believe there is another reason for the attacks and self-righteous behavior: https://grumpyoldmenopause.com/irritable-male-syndrome/

This has affected me and I try to always think about it prior to writing any posts or other items in my life. We seem to recognize crankiness and grumpiness in others but not ourselves.

I received an email from a member condemning me for my post that he misread. Takes a thick skin to read the site and watch other being attacked for no reason. There is enough negative in life that we do not need it on this fun board.

Life is funny in things like this.

Have a Great Day,

Dave

My take on the CRT board is that it has mellowed a great deal over the past 3-4 years. There doesn't seem to be much of a "divide" on this board like 9 - 10 years ago when the board was at the height of its popularity.

IMO every social group will have its internal differences... on the forum its easy to be divided...
However... ive never experienced or witnessed any "beef" between gentlemen from CRT spilling over to the Gulch...

end of the day does it really matter? we come for the chicas, each person has his own tastes...
I remember being your neighbor at the Castillo on your first trip and we all had a blast with the chicas and thats what keeps us coming back..... CRT is a distraction when we are home and most newbies are mature enough to form their own opinions

the one thing that differentiates us Mongerers from the regular guys who dont make these trips is that we have options.. if SJO sucks, go to thailand, colombia etc... so we are all happy in the end

I read other boards and forums and its the same dynamic...

Very true! Years ago SJO used to be my only mongering destination...6-8 times a year; last year I did Thailand once, SJO once and MDE four times  Leaving on a three week trip to Pattaya in two weeks :D

A lot of guys can talk smack from behind a computer screen, then when meet them in real life they won't say a word. Liquid Courage at a bar. Computer Courage on this Forum.

Based on the responses here so far, I probably will fall into the minority.
Too many people here ask very simple questions that have covered numerous times, they come off as being too lazy to do a little research on their own before asking the board. There is an entire section dedicated to Newbies, that contains an entire thread Guide for Newbies that is updated when information changes. There is also a search function that is easy to use as well. Too many people try to get all of the benefits of the board with making a small investment by purchasing a membership.

The board is not really any different than any other message type board, the snarky, sarcastic types are on every board ( I will admit to being that type a few times).

I find myself falling into the group that prefers the GFE rather than quantity. I mix trips with some old favorites with some new ones, while other guys stick with their list of proven providers, others have a no repeat rule. Some guys like a predictable experience while others venture out into great unknown. I am not really comfortable haggling over $10, nor am I the type that pays at the upper reaches of the schedule. I have found making an investment in interviewing pays dividends and increases the odds of having a good experience. While not full proof the chance of having a bad time are reduced.

A agree with most of what you posted and would add that the Newbies on the board, who only post when they want information, and are to friggin lazy to at least attempt to look for it, are annoying.

The two types of posters I dislike are, first, "know it all's" who think they know everything about every possible subject imaginable. They always have to have the last word. I have always felt that maybe 2-3% of all people who post and act like big shots on message boards do so build their own ego's or to replace something that is missing in their lives. This would include websites other than CRT or aother monger sites.

The other type of poster I have come to dislike are the people who are trying to selling us a product or service. The reason for their post are to bring attention to their product or service not to add anything useful to the community. Those folks should be required to buy an add or have their post deleted.

As far as the "head butting contest" that occur on CRT it does not effect me that much. I have been involved in a few myself. That kind of thing exist on all message boards and over the years I have been on sports message boards, legal message boards, political message boards as well as other monger boards. It just comes with the territory.

i have said it many times but truly i don't post on any message board w so many members north of 60 years old
guys tend to be a bit more curmudgeonly and don't get subtle attempts at humor
combined w the sometimes difficult challenge of interpreting the intention of written words its easy to see why there are problems
i would bet that for many posters here this is the only place they post period
its also highly unusual for so many posters on a board to have actually met in person
disagreement and discussion are good for a board imo but it seems there is some arguments that will never go away
other than that i blame guys like Phoenix Rising for hassling and chasing away great posters like Jazzbro
guys like that gave the board a touch of class

I actually miss Greengo. He was banned for no legit reason in my opinion. You didnt have to agree with him, but he wrote in a James Joyce style that in my opinion was entertaining.

Greengo was entertaining in a wacko way. He offended people here on the board with his weird stream of consciousness angry posts but he never made any personal attacks. It might have been a product of too many 'shrooms.
