Alright. My first few trips to Costa Rica, I failed to pay soccer any attention, but noticed EVERYTIME I GO, they have a soccer game on. I know nothing about the sport. However, it was my fourth trip to CR that I started to pay attention. Now, I'm planning a trip to Costa Rica in 2017, and would like to go to a soccer game. Where do I find the schedules? How do I purchase tickets? Where are the rules to the game-penalties, technicalities, etc? What are the formations? Is soccer as dangerous of a sport in Costa Rica? In Brazil, they murdered a referee; due to a flagrant penalty. How do I get to the stadium? By taxi? It's my understanding there is no parking at the stadium. Since, China didn't build one for the Costa Rican people. Just looking for information. Any information is useful. It seems I saw where I can purchase tickets on the field for $250 bucks. is that true? How much are tickets? Again, any info is useful. Thanks. |

Many Americans who previously had difficulty sleeping have taken to watching Soccer before their bed time and have reported positive results to their doctors. Urbane legend has it that there once was a Soccer game played with more than 3 points scored, researchers are still scouring the records to find out if this is true....

Be careful if you go to a game and try and pick one that is not a huge rivalry game. I have been warned about going to any Alajeula vs Saprissa game especially if it is being played at Saprissa. The crowds can be a bit over enthusiastic and you do not want to get caught in the crossfire. Also I would be careful about wearing a team jersey, as you do not know where you will end up sitting. Also make sure to take a look around and see what team is being represented around you, so you can decide if you want to cheer for a team or not. I would love to go to a game as well but find it more fun to hang at a local bar where there is a good mix of people that really get into the game. |

There are different types of teams, there is the national team that plays at the world cup or olympic level, these are basically all star teams, the players play on other teams on a regular basis and get together for the big tournaments. These games are almost always at the national stadium. Then you have the club teams such as saprisa. Saprisa is one of the most popular teams in the san jose area, they probably the most successful team and have a huge fan base. Never have been to game in costa rica so I can't comment on pricing and fan behavior. I did go to match in medellin and had a great time, paid a little extra for better seats ( $30 total) and it was worth it. I would think it would not be difficult to find some one to tag along with and catch a game. |

Good information. Because I would definitely wear a team jersey, but to the National Stadium. The one that looks like a huge vagina, from the air, and no parking lot. It seems like everyone would wear the Costa Rican jersey to the National Stadium donated by China. It is a national event. Now, where is the schedule for the national soccer team? I noticed it's NOT like American Football where the home team is listed second for matches. It looks like home teams are listed first followed by the away team. On a national level, which team(s) is(are) considered a rivalry between Mexico, Honduras, Trinidad-Tabago, and Panama? That's their national home games. It's my understanding soccer is played year round, and if that's true, then what's the difference between the National level and a team like Saprisa? More games or something? |

i enjoy watching it and the world cup 2014 will remain a fantastic memory as I was there for 2 of the wins over Italy and i think parguay walking the streets and watching the games in bars and seeing the locals lose their minds was as good as any sports related event in my life wish i could give you some insight to the sport but to me it looks like two nets and a ball lol |

Costa Rica will be playing Mexico as part of the 2018 World Cup qualifier on March 23 in Mexico City. You will see many people wearing national team jerseys around San Jose on that day. |

I went to the GNR concert at the National Stadium two week ago. Leave plenty of time to get there, traffic is a mess. It should be around 8,000 c each way. Make sure that the driver has cleared his Maria prior to the start. After the concert/game (I would assume) people just walk down the center of the street. There are no sidewalks there, and neither drivers, nor pedestrian's seem to mind people walking in the street. I wonder what type of concrete was used in making this structure. I assume that China would not make something out of a high grade material that they are giving away. Only time will tell............. Health, happy holidays, & happiness............. |

More games or something?[/quote] This is the schedule for World Cup 2018 Qualifying, Costa Rica will be playing in the US in September, the Ticos embarrassed the US 4-0 the last time they played. The World Cup qualifying is a group of 6 teams playing each other ( 10 games), two games have been played, thus only 8 are left. Teams like Saprisa basically play year round. Costa Rica and Mexico will be the biggest game left at home, the level of play by Saprisa will not be as good as the national team obviously. The national team has one of the best goalkeepers in the world, he plays for a very high profile team in Spain when not playing for the national team, his name is Keylor Navas. |

From my experiences coming to the US where they played these strange games called Football and Baseball I would suggest you do all or some of the following: 1. Find friends or co-workers who play or have played the game. Go to games in the US with them. Ask them questions about the play and about the refrees decisions. The friend should be one who wants you to understand the game. 2. Just like baseball has little league, school leagues, college and the pro. leagues there are many soccer leagues of all levels many of the free to watch. 3. On ESPN3 you can watch various Soccer Leagues that have already been played. The running commentries give you a very good picture of the action and help you understand the rules. 4. Search on google for the basic or simple rules of soccer ( football ) wading through complex rules in books ment for refrees will put you to sleep and are not needed to enjoy the game. 5. It would be best to not wear any team jerseys at a professional game unless you go with a group who know what they are doing. 6. Finally soccer is a very low scoring game and if you cannot appreciate the tactics and techniques being used by the two sides you may find yourself bored by many games. 7. For me personally I only enjoy watching sports I have played in my youth ( mostly badly )  So I do not enjoy watching baseball or football, not even the World series or Superbowl
