Unfortunately I have some sad news to report. Erica has passed away from an aggressive lung cancer. We remember her as a gentile, real sweetheart who was always great with people and had a smile on her face. Roberto Quesada, the manager for many years, passed away last Sunday. Those of us who had the pleasure of knowing Roberto I'm sure have a legion of stories about what a great host he was to all of us. For me it's hard to imagine a person who could have managed in that environment with a more even-handed and welcoming demeanor. We have lost two wonderful friends. |

Terrible news Condolences to both their families and friends Although I never knew Erica intimately she always had a friendly smile What can be said about Roberto. A true gentlemen. Always welcoming to see his smiling face at the end of the bar when we entered. He will be missed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I trust the info knowing who it's coming from but I can't believe it about Erica because from what I know, or thought I knew, this doesn't make sense. She was a favorite and someone that I considered a friend, as much as somebody could be in this "game". She asked me to not tell anybody when she told me and I didn't say a peep to anyone, but I can tell this story now. So here's the thing... in February 2015, I was in SJ and Erica came over and we did our thing and afterwards we were talking (she always hung out for a while, no hit and run) and she mentioned that she had a lot of pain in her right breast. There was a dark spot like a bruise on the bottom which she said was there a while. I advised that she see a doctor because regular bruises don't hang around that long. She went to the doctor. A couple months later, I was planning my next trip and I reached out and told her that I was coming soon, and she said "I'll see you" like usual. Then the next day, she whatsapped me that she won't be able to see me when I come to CR. That's when she told me about the breast cancer. She had surgery, they removed the cancer, and she was in chemo and when I got there in August 2015, she was finished with chemo and said there is no trace of cancer. And she was preparing for surgery in early September to remove her right breast. When I was there, I visited her at her house. She looked good but you could tell that it had taken a toll on her. She had gained like 40 lbs and lost most of her hair. But she said that she was healthy. She, her mother, and her daughter all seemed pretty optimistic. She had the surgery in early September to remove her breast. When I was in CR in January, I visited her again. She looked better, lost some of the weight and her hair was growing back in. She looked happy and thankful and said that she's ready to move on with her life and was waiting a few more months to begin her reconstructive surgery. And I haven't spoken to her since. I was planning to reach out to see if she had her reconstruction yet, but just didn't get around to it. This is a shock because all seemed to be going well for her. I'm guessing that the cancer moved to her lungs. Her Whatsapp shows last activity yesterday afternoon, so I just messaged her and whoever answered said that she died in peace and without pain on March 30th. RIP. |

After my young sister had a lump removed at a fancy Philadelphia hospital by a famous and very competent breast surgeon, Anna Rosenberg, she was told that she had less than a 10% chance of a recurrence during the rest of her life. My sister was dead 6 months later. It want to her liver, then to everywhere. Make sure that the women in your life (who you care about) get regular mammograms, even if YOU have to pay for them. Cancer is a nasty disease. It killed Superman's wife - - - who never smoked in her life. It is now killing my urologist, who never smoked either. It doesn't only kill old people. We need to be terrified if it. |

Very sad news. Roberto was always a fun guy to chat with on my many Idem visits over the years. Erica's life was way too brief. May both rest in peace. |

Sad news, indeed. I have known Roberto for over a decade and he was one of my favorite people in CR. I always stopped in to see him when in town, and he always welcomed me like an old friend. He was reserved yet open, if that make sense. I never felt like a customer there because he treated me like a returning friend. He was sick for a long time and I this news was a long time coming. My prayers go to him and his family. Don't quite know who Erica was, but that is tragic news to be so young. She's at peace and in heaven, may she be a guardian angel to her young daughter left behind. |

Remember in 2004, I think. Sitting in Idem with Roberto, Don Gordo, Vegas Bob, and a few other guys. I was new to the hobby, and everything was fun and exciting. It did not help that the Blue Marlin was still fantastic, with cien being the price ONLY for TLNs from hotties, Zona Blue was epic, and I would get 5 chica BBBJs at the Dungeon and other low end places for a total of 40 bucks or so. Yes, I wax about "good ol days" when today is the only good ol' day any of us really ever has. Death reminds us of this, and allows for one to reflect on good memories and commeraderie... Night a whisky in DG and Roberto's honor. |
