My wife just advised me that volcano Turrialba has gone active again. There is volcanic ash covering everything outside. This causes huge problems in travel in that planes will not fly near it. Expect delays and cancellations.

Turrialba has actually been erupting now for weeks. One day last week, it averaged 4 eruptions an hour but most were small. The one today was large but luckily, the winds are keeping the ash away from the airport so no problems. They did close the 'other' airport so if your coming in in a Lear Jet, you might have to settle for SJO.

OVSICORI (Volcano folks in CR) have a fantastic page on Facebook with constant updates, videos, pictures, ash fall maps and more. It is a great resource to keep track of volcanoes and earthquakes here.

Pavas was closed this morning.

SANSA flights were delayed and SANSA made no effort to let the passengers at Tortugero or the Barra know. We called SANSA operations and they were de-ashing planes at Juan Santamaria.

Darn! I guess I have to park my Lear here in the states for a few days, I'll just charter a jumbo jet for myself and fly into the main airport...
